MARCH 17

"French Cafe," the gospel-infused ballad on Marc Broussard's Momentary Setback disc, sounds like the performance of a soul veteran. Over its dual piano and organ sound, Broussard croons the ballad like an experienced Romeo. But although it was composed by David Egan -- a Louisiana songwriter who has penned tunes for the likes of Percy Sledge and Etta James -- the man singing it is a relative greenhorn. Broussard was 20 years old when he recorded the album last year. You wouldn't be able to tell by his delivery, though. Broussard began singing at the age of five, performing with his father, Louisiana Hall of Fame guitarist Ted Broussard. Father and son worked together on Momentary Setback, whose independent release has started quite a buzz. With O.A.R., Pseudopod. $20-$22. Metropol, Strip. 412.261.2232
