Introducing... Marc Broussard

Meredith: What are your immediate plans for the next couple of months?
Marc: Well I think what were focusing on is trying to get out around in the area around here in Southern Louisiana and talk to Texas and maybe Mississippi trying to bobble around and get our name out there and get some new fans and get a new audience.

Meredith: What is your ultimate goal?
Marc: My ultimate goal is to take over the world. No, actually my ultimate goal is to have a well-respected record company, production company, publishing company, and I hope to be able to do that in the next 8-10 years.

Meredith: Who is involved in the whole production of Marc Broussard?
Marc: Well, immediately, is my tour manager, Ross Dupr, and then theres my record label, Leah Simon and Del Williams, and I just got new management- its Brickwall management- and thats about it.

Meredith: Who are some of your major influences?
Marc: Brian McKnight is by far my biggest influence. Stevie Wonder, Martin Sexton, Donny Hathaway. Its a pretty wide spectrum of people. Mostly singers, definitely mostly singers.

Meredith: What is your personal favorite song on the album?
Marc: I would have to say French caf.

Meredith: Can I ask why?
Marc: Because it really epitomizes where Im from, South Louisiana, and without talking about crawfish and alligators, if you know what I mean.

Meredith: How would you describe your style of music to people who have never heard your songs?
Marc: I would have to say white soul.

Meredith: Who is your biggest source of support?
Marc: My biggest source of support would have to be my family and my roommates.

Meredith: Whats been the biggest challenge so far or whats something you didnt expect?
Marc: I dont know. I dont know if theres really been any challenges I didnt expect. I never really expected people to start singing my words at my shows, I never expected that to happen. Thats a pleasant surprise.

Meredith: How has growing up in Southern Louisiana shaped your music tastes and your songs?
Marc: At a really early age, I was exposed to a wide variety of different styles of music, including Cajun music and African music and Jazz and R and B. I know that I wouldnt be the same artist if I hadnt grown up here. I feel really blessed that Ive been able to grow up here because of all the different cultural aspects.
