MojoMouth ...and everybody says there's no rock bands here
Louisiana sponsors, including OffBeat, the Howlin' Wolf, Louisiana Economic Development and Louisiana Music Commission, will host the first annual Rock-U Showcase as a part of the Rock-U Summer Tour. The Rock-U Showcase 2002 Summer Tour is an eleven-city journey through four states in the south central U.S. that will bring together fans, music professionals and bands. The tour will showcase the region's brightest bands in front of some of the music industry's most powerful and influential A&R representatives, booking agents, managers, attorneys and industry pros.
As part of their participation in the 2002 Summer Tour, Rock-U bands will have the opportunity to win a no-strings attached, expense-paid recording session, and all bands will be featured on www.rock-u.com with a short bio, an mp3 and a web site link. The band's fans will be the deciding factor in whether the bands win or not as they wil have the opportunity to vote for their favorite band on www.rock-u.com. Each showcase will have a happy hour and music industry "meet and greet" at the showcase venue beginning at 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
The Rock-U New Orleans Showcase in New Orleans is Saturday, June 15 at the Howlin' Wolf. Showcases will also be held in Shreveport (June 6 at James Burton's Rock & Roll Caf; featuring Zack The Rookie, Squint, The American Tragedy and Junior); Baton Rouge (June 13 at the Varsity; featuring Madstone, Poor Harvey, Treefrog, Eve's Child and Black Opus); and Lafayette (at Grant Street Dancehall; featuring Marc Broussard, Blimey, urbosleeks, Strawboss and Frigg-A-Go-Go).
The New Orleans Rock-U Showcase will feature local rockers Overtone, Joe Stark, Shanni Sane, Focus 21 and Amerigo. Warners' A&R rep J'Mel Burgos will judge the bands. The state has asked that all recording and publishing rights be retained in Louisiana. The showcases will also feature Endochine, a recently-signed band from Austin.
