Mystique is one of the 36 eggs that hatched on Avalon, she studied with the Magus to learn the different spells, though she could not use them, she memorized them. After she was around fifteen in gargoyle years, she left Avalon with Tom, the guardian, and went to find other means of life, besides going back to Avalon.
Ten years after Mystique left Avalon, she found the Weird Sisters hanging around President Lincoln. She pressed them with questions until she hit the nerve and the Sisters gave out too much information. In exchange for this information that was given, the Weird Sisters gave her relative immortality, in other words, she would live as long as the rest of her immediate family, including: siblings, parents, and children.
Of course, since Demona was eternally linked to MacBeth, and Mystique was her daughter, she would live as long as Demona did. When Mystique found herself stumbling around on a cobblestone alley, where the Weird Sisters left her, she climbed on top of the building and glided away...
Over a hundred years have passed and she finds herself in Paris, France. She hasn't seen or heard from another gargoyle in in that time period. She landed at Notre Dame and found Thailog and Demona, she was interested so she took a look and found out that she was Demona's daughter.
Shocked, she left and into her hands fell the Phoenix Gate, literally, it just fell from the sky, and so she found herself at Castle Mirrorbane.
