"Madama Butterfly"

"Un bel di vedremo"

Music by Giacomo Puccini

from Act 2
setting: Nagasaki, Japan, c. 1900; Butterfly's house
Character: Cio-Cio San(Madama Butterfly)

(Cio-Cio San has been abandoned by her American husband,
Lieutenant B.F.pinkerton. Three years has been pasted,
and her faithful servant, Suzuki, pleads with her to forget him and move on to a new life.
Butterfly berates her and sings of how it will be when her husband returns.)

One beautiful day we will see
a thread of smoke rise
on the far horizon of the sea.
And then the ship appears.
Then the white ship enters the port,
roars its salute.
You see? He has come!
I will not go to meet him --not I.
I will position myself there
on the edge of the hill
and wait a long time;
and the long wait
will not be hard on me.
And...having emerged from the town crowd,
a man -- a tiny speck --
sets out for the hill.
Who will it be?
And when he has arrived,
what will he say?
He will call Butterfly from the distance.
I, without giving answer,
will remain concealed from him--
a bit in play
and a bit so as not to die
at the first reunion.
And he, somewhat anxious, will call:
"dear little wife,"
"fragrance of verbena" --
the names he used to call me whenever he arrived.
And this will happen, I promise you.
Persist in your fear;
I, with sure faith, await him!

"Tosca"

"Vissi d'arte!"

Character: Tosca

Devoted myself to art;
Devoted myself to love.
I sincerely love all the creatures.
And I'm enthusiasm to all the people who is suffering.
I'm always sincere, always pray to the God
in my pure heart.
Always be sincere, sending flowers to the Lord.
But at this moment,
Why, why is so cruel to me??

I always decorate Holly Mother with full of jewels on her dress,
And sing to the Lord and all the stars on the sky.
At this moment
why, why is so cruel to me?!
