Volta

I'm Volta, Electra's freezer truck.

CB as he is known in London is the Red Caboose to the rest of the world. Production note wise it should be noted why in the heck was he renamed what he is everywhere else? we dont know. While other peoples names are reminiscent of their car style it is not as though you see them yelling hey union pacific how are you? to grease ball. For the sake of this web page and those who have not seen or heard the London production we will be calling him Red Caboose. Red Caboose (Or Caboose for short) is one of the most complicated if not THE most complicated character in the whole of Starlight Express. He is both compassionate towards the heart broken Dinah and strangely psychotic when it comes to everyone else. Several people have their own opinions granted as to the reasoning for this behavior. Some speculate he does not care for Dinah at all and is only trying to get close so he can wreck her as he does everyone else. Some wonder why he enjoys wrecking everyone else from a psychological standpoint this could be because he is always in the back and in response to never getting to lead he takes charge of a situation in this manor without being the lead or it could be he was in a crash as a trainlett and it just stuck with him to be psychotic. No matter the reason Caboose is to say the very least two faced. This is not because he cant decide a side to work for it is because as he puts it Im on my side and will there by look out for number one (which is the same number public enemy he is.) He has been involved with countless robberies and train wrecks but no one ever suspects the innocent smile of the breaking car.

Red Caboose original role alters throughout the show. We first take a look into his personality during Freight with his introduction being along the lines of Im right behind you. If I can be of help at all then simply call on me/CB. He seems the friendly; associate there to help all who should ask it. These feelings are made even more apparent when he sings Theres me to the uncoupled Dinah stating he would always be there for her. During the Rap after Poppa has won Rusty a place in the finals CB offers his assistance to the downhearted Steamer while Grease Ball and Electra argue over Pearl Now the stage is all set for Rusty to take the light caboose and win Pearls heart. Wrong. Now the true colors of the Red Caboose are shown in dazzling display. He informs Electra that he will help him win by wiping out Greaseball. No sooner has Electra gone than he informs Greaseball he will wipe out Rusty. Provoked by the words remember whos side you are on Red Caboose begins his song CB / Wide Smile informing The Rolling Stock of his history and real endeavors. Under the smiles under the fun Im public enemy number one Red Caboose then couples up to Rusty though soon sabotages his run (pending the production decides exactly how.)
