I Sit Alone

I sit alone
Looking up at the ceiling from the water.
I cup my hands till they’re full
Then allow the water to erase the day
My thoughts of you
Your smiling eyes, your gentle laugh
I let myself relax in the reality of you
The way you touch, how you feel
The shivers when I’m in your arms
I look across & see you sitting there
Smiling at me as you reach your hand out to me
Wiping the water from my lashes, caressing my cheek
I look into your eyes, & see your thoughts
Midnight’s in Paris, to quiet nights at home
I smile & lean back, letting your thoughts become my own
Engulfed in your thoughts, comforted by your eyes
Then my peace is broken, & I sit up
You’re no longer here with me
Then I realize you never were
So now I sit alone as I realize, you do not exist
