Bylaws of the Merriam Hills Neighborhood Group

Name
The name of the neighborhood organization is Merriam Hills Neighborhood Group (MHNG). It is an umbrella organization encompassing the Goodman Heights, Hickory  Hills and Merriam View  neighborhoods of Merriam, Kansas.

Purpose
The purpose of the organization is to promote a better neighborhood and community through group action. The organization is for educational and charitable purposes.

Membership
Residents of Merriam who live north of Johnson Drive to 54th Terrace., and east of Antioch Road are eligible for membership.  Membership is voluntary.  Membership lists are confidential.

Organization Costs
Fundraising will be done to meet organization costs. 

Officers
The officers are two Co-chairs, a Secretary and a Treasurer, who are elected in January of every other year.  The term of office is two years.  Elected city of Merriam officials are not eligible to hold office in Merriam Hills Neighborhood Group.

Committees
The standing committees are:  School Liaison, City Hall Liaison, Neighborhood Safety, Finance and Communications.  Chairs are nominated and elected by the membership of MHNG.

Steering Committee
The four officers, the five committee chairs and one neighborhood-at-large representative comprise the Steering Committee. Vacancies are appointed (to finish a term) by the Steering Committee at the next quarterly meeting following a resignation.

Meetings
Steering Committee meets a minimum of twice yearly in a manner accepted by all steering committee members, and more often as deemed necessary.  To maintain membership on the Steering Committee requires attendance at two meetings a year.  Excused absence in excess of one absence (with prior notice) is left to the discretion of the Steering Committee.

Quorum
At least 51 percent of the Steering Committee membership must be present to conduct official business.  All decisions must be made by majority vote of the quorum in attendance.

Membership Meetings
The Steering Committee will convene membership meetings twice yearly, and a quorum of the Steering Committee members must attend the two meetings.

Amendments
The bylaws may be amended at any membership meeting, after written notification is distributed to membership.  Two-thirds of those members in attendance must approve the amendment.
