This meeting of the planning commission is a public hearing to allow residents an opportunity to address the commission regarding the Merriam Hills Plan becoming part of the comprehensive plan of the city. Our Plan has been in process for a
long time; has been the subject of several community meetings and is now reaching the approval stage by the planning commission and, ultimately, the city council. Please plan to attend and let your comments be heard. Bring your neighbors and
be a part of this process. For copy of our Plan, contact Wanda Ryan at 362-1859.

During our January, 2003 meeting our new officers were elected and by-laws approved.  A copy of our new by-laws is available by calling Chris Evans Hands at 384-5340.

Now that we are an active neighborhood group, it is time to have some fun by planning fall or winter event. So far, suggestions have been made to have a fall picnic, holiday caroling event or hayride. We would love to hear from you. Please send your ideas to: Tarre Beach, 8515 W 56th Terr. Merriam, KS. 66202

In order to continue bringing you neighborhood news; to fund special events and to hold our general meetings, etc we need your help. At this point we do not receive funds other than the support of residents. We have not established dues for our group.
Please donate to your neighborhood group by sending a check (not cash) to our treasurer, Andrew North at 8014 Johnson Drive, Merriam Kansas 66202. Checks may be made payable to Merriam Hills Neighborhood Group.

Goodman Street Project - Our city engineer, Scott Crain, has been meeting with property owners about this construction and traffic calming project with another meeting tentatively scheduled for Sept. 17. NOTE: this is a change from Sept 3rd to Sept 17th. Watch for letters from the city on this. It is important to attend these meetings to find out the latest on this street construction scheduled for spring, 2004. For more specific details/questions, call Scott at 722-7700 x 168.

School Has Started - Crestview Elementary School has several functions throughout the year and needs volunteers from the neighborhood. Principal, Pam Lewis, welcomes anyone who is interested in helping. If you are interested, contact Joanne Katz at 362-6279. In the past two years, Merriam Hills residents have donated plants and gift certificates to support the school’s fund-raising auction. Also, Crestview has a recycle bin for papers and cardboard. Strong schools and a strong neighborhood go together. Please drive carefully in school areas.

and a Big Welcome to any new neighbors that we missed this time.

A big Thanks-A-Bunch to all of our great neighbors who have cleaned-up and fixed-up their property this summer. Your houses look so good !!! We can all be proud of the appearance of Merriam Hills. When you see neighbors fixing up their homes this fall, be sure to thank them. Everyone needs appreciation for their efforts.

Watch for future newsletters about upcoming general neighborhood meetings!
