| This tempera painting was done on wood in the 1380s. It stands 195 X 158 cm and resides in Pinacoteca Nazionale in Siena. The Virgin Mary is seated at the bottom right, and the three magi (wise men) kneel before her offering gifts to worship the baby Jesus. The background shows hills and buildings to represent the long journey which the magi had to take to arrive. The walled city at the very back is Siena itself, where Bartolo lived. | ||||||||||||||||
