LESSON PLAN CHINESE DRAGONS
GOALS:

To be creative when making their chinese dragons and to use the techniques that they learn from the teacher.

OBJECTIVES:

Students will discover the world of the Chinese dragon by creating ther own festive dragon.

SUNSHINE STATE STANDARDS:

VA.A.1.1.2
Uses art materials and tools to develop basic processes and motor skills, in a safe and responsible manner.

VA.A.1.1.3
Distinguishes the differences within and among art materials, techniques, processes, and organizational structures such as elements and principles of design.

MATERIALS:

Drawing paper
Black markers
Pencils
Watercolors
Books containing dragons

PROCEDURES:

Briefly discuss the characteristics of a dragon and list ideas on board.  Students will look through books containing pictures of dragons and ask them to find as many characteristics as listed on the board.  Now students are to create their own drawing on paper.  When their dragons are complete they must trace over the line with the black marker.  Students use watercolors to paint their dragons being careful.  They must paint entire paper.  When the paint dry the teacher will mount on black paper and display.

CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT:

Create areas for specific materials; store in boxes that can be transported or pulled easily for lesson.  Reliable students will unpack, stack, and maintain order in the storage area.  Teacher will inventory supplies.

ASSESSMENT/EVALUATION

Students will be evaluated through teacher evaluation of final project and group critique.
