To join Martinair Virtual Airlines, pilots need not have any practical experiance in aviation or the airline industry. All you need is an intersest and love of aviation or flight simualtion, have enough time to complete your weekly assingment, and have a flight simulator that is capable of flying our routes as flown by our real world counterparts. Typically these include Microsoft Flight Simulator (all versions), Pro-Pilot, and Xplane. Obviously you would need to have an Internet connection and access to an e-mail account. We do not require you to purchase any additional items to be able to fly with us but you are free to do so.
Martinair Virtual Airlines exists for the entertainment and education of its members and pilots. We pride ourselves in our professionalism and strict code of ethics we adhere to.
We serve all Hubs of our affiliate Airlines, using the Hub and Spoke system as used by our real world counterparts. Routes are as flown by these real would counterparts, are taken from the actual flight schedules and typically originate and terminate at the appropriate Hubs. Pilots are assigned to and based at a Hub of their choice and will typically begin and end their routes at their resident hub though they may traverse other hubs in their flight assignment.
When a pilot's application is accepted and the pilot is hired, the Personel Department will assign the pilot his/her Pilot Number and assign him/her to the Hub of their choice as reflected on the Application Form. Please remember to select an Alternate Hub as well in your application.
The Hub Manager or his designate/s (Assistant Hub Manager or Crew Cheifs) will assign flights, collect the Pilot Reports (Pirep) from the pilots and assign new assignments.
Pilots may fly their flights with as much realism as they see fit. Due to the diversity of experiance represented by our pilots, the need to allow as much flexibility as needed here is apparent. Pilots may adjust aircraft reliability, simulation, weather, and any other variable to suit their experiances or interest. However, we encourage pilots to fly thier routes in as realistic conditions as possible, as it increases the challenge and variables of the flight.
Pilots are encouraged not to use Microsoft Flight Simulator "Land Me" option. Although pilots are not forbidden to use it, we feel it defeats the purpose of flying for a Virtual Airline and strongly discourage it.
We will gladly credit you with previous flight hours you may have accumulated. All that we ask is to provide us with the necessary information so that we may verify the information from a responsible person or website.
Pireps are due by midnight Thursday of each week. Assignments are sent every Saturday by noon. You can fly as often as you like, just email your hub manager or his designate and simply request another flight. Flights assigned must be completed prior to requesting another flight.
Assignments are reported by our Website reporting system. Once you have been accepted as a pilot to Martinair Virtual Airlines, you will be given instructions as to the use of the program.
Different aircraft are assigned with each flight. You may transfer from one hub to another. Flight assignments can be commuter or overseas. |
