They were afraid of what they didn't understand. She understood, but couldn't explain. But if she could, would she? She might have, but she doubted it. They wouldn't believe her, even if she told them.
It wasn't her fault that it had happened to her. If she could have helped it, she would have stayed. It was better than this ten fold. But it wasn't up to her, which is not what they would have said. They thought she did it on purpose.
Everyone, her included, knew how we were treated. They should have figured out that she would have never become one of us on purpose. Because they were to us as they thought we were to Him. But we never wronged Him. Or so we thought.
