Not Tonight
Not Tonight

I lie awake
Late at night,
Listening for the phone,
Waiting for my Midnight ring to play...
Minutes tick by...
Hours pass...
Slowly...
I check the clock...
You've been home for hours...
I know it's wishful thinking,
To wish to hear your voice,
To see that twinkle in your eyes,
To wish for your love
A second time around...
But even after a month
Of these slow, quiet nights
Waiting for my phone to sound,
I still can't help but lose sleep,
Hoping you're alrite.
Maybe one night
I'll cease to wait,
Cease to dream of you,
Cease to worry if you're okay.
But tonight
Is not that night.
