4/6 - DCKC AKC Trial - at Willingboro, NJ - Excellent A Standard Q1
Magic is eager and breaks her Stay at the start. I was planning on leading out 2 and
doing a Lead-Out-Pivot. I see her pass me before the Double Jump. She
is on my right and I call her to Jump 3. I Rear Cross to the Tire and around the Pin-wheel.
She is on my left on the Seesaw and I forget to Cross after it. So I have to Push her to
the A-Frame after the Triple and Cross behind it. I saw some dogs go back up the A-Frame,
so I let her take a few
steps before turning her for the Tunnel 10. I stand in front of the Seesaw after the Dogwalk
and call her. She has no problem finding the Chute. She is on my left over Jump 16 and I
send her into the Weaves. She is a little wide and has to take a side-step into the entry.
I see the judge raise her hand for a Refusal. We finish the Weaves and I forget to Front
Cross after. I send her over 18 and we finish. As I put her leash on, I see the judge
go to the scribe and say "on that last dog...." She took away the Refusal! The next day
she says she was a little hasty on the call. Moral - never stop running. The Excellent A
course was tougher than the Excellent B one. Trap Jump 5 was closer to 3 by almost 50%
(someone said 5 of her strides to 8) and our Jump 16 was visibly closer to the Weaves.
Magic was first out of 22 20" dogs in Excellent A (3 ring trial). The field was good
and included Diane Bauman's new BC Luca. Only one other dog Q'ed and he had a 95. I had
thought that she would never get another first place (too many Border Collies),
so this was a big surprise.
The next day Magic would have Q'ed again, but she knocked the last bar which was a Triple.
Only one dog in 20" Q'ed that day. It was a Handler error as I yelled "big, big, big"
which might have caused her to leap too soon.
I didnt run her in JWW on Saturday. On Sunday JWW she didnt want to run. She caught
something and was sick the rest of the week.
