Starting the hand Hand1
I started building the hand by modeling one finger. Itīs not that easy as one thinks. The fingertip is really hard to construct (I have to admit that I didnīt follow Gary Martin tutorial too close). Also the fingernail needs some thinking - I just colored it red to make it visible, I didnīt model it yet. I then duplicated the one finger three times and scaled it. Trying to model the hand itself I really got confused with the number of CPs you need in the diameter of the hand. First I had not enough and couldnīt connect the fingers (also I had counted before modeling how many I would need), then I had too much and had to through them away (also I had counted before modeling how many I would need :-(. When I was finished (no thumb yet - I know) with the hand it looked absolutely flat and I hab a hard time spreading it up, so it has an elipse where it connects to the arm. Itīs not ready yet but one can see that it goes in the right direction, thatīs why I put it up now. There is a blow up of the finger tip to show you how I solved the problem of the almost flat nailbed and the bending around the tip. I had a nail modeled yesterday, but then AM died and took the nail with him.
Yes, the last image shows the same hand from a different view. Itīs amazing how the hand can look allmost right from two angles and look totally wrong from another angle (last one is viewed from the top) - Iīm working on it.
