The Weapons used

The M.95 Rifle

The main rifle used by the Dutch in 1940 was the M.95. A weapon that was designed by the Oesterreichische Waffenfabriks Gesellschaft (OWG) and used the Mannlichter system. Only the first few thousand weapons were produced by OWG, the remaining weapons where build by the Dutch state company Artillerie Inrichtingen from 1896 till somewhere in the late twenties. Although the total production for the Netherlands was about 470.000, it is estimated that there were some 260.000 of these weapons in 1940, the reason why this number is significantly lower, is because of the fact the rifles wouldn't last for 50 years and because of a large amount of weapons was converted to carbine's (see the carbine section foe more info). It is widely excepted that the M.95 was a modern weapon, even in 1940!
