Research Summary
Many people are helping out when it comes to the World Trade Center disaster. So far over two hundred animals have been found since the terrorism attack. The rescuers have found numerous dogs, cats, rabbits, and ferrets. "An A.S.P.C.A. Humane Law Enforcement walked up 38 flights of stairs to retrieve a gecko." Many of the animals needed medical attention for dehydration and respiratory problems. Most of the rescued animals are temporarily being held in holding facilities until the owner is found. Unfortunately, because of last month's events, some owners are unable to care for their pets. In which case, the A.S.P.C.A. places the animals in foster care until a permanent home is found. There are also many services for owners including a database to report missing animals or vice versa and counseling to help deal with the loss of a pet.
