HOW DOES A MODIFIED STABLEFORD SYSTEM WORK?

Using the Stableford Scoring System, each golfer accumulates points based on their gross score on each hole. The system described below is 'modified' to accomodate the generally higher scoring averave of non-professional golfers.

Modified Stableford Scoring System

Score Per Hole Points Awarded Per Hole

Double Eagle 8 Eagle 6 Birdie 4 Par 2 Bogey 1 Double Bogey & up 0

The number of points that must be achieved is based on the golfer's course handicap:

36 - course handicap = points needed

EXAMPLE Ima Golfer, Hdcp 12 36 - 12 = 24 pts needed

Front Nine Hole 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9

Par 5 4 3 4 4 4 4 3 4 35 Score 5 5 4 7 4 6 5 3 4 43 Pts 2 1 1 0 2 0 1 2 2 11

Back Nine Hole 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18

Par 4 3 5 4 4 4 3 4 5 36 Score 5 4 5 5 4 4 4 5 4 40 Pts 1 1 2 1 2 2 1 1 4 15 Total Score 83 Points Today 26 Net Points 2 (26 - 24 = 2) A golfer is never penalized for not playing or for having a very bad round of golf. Zero (0) net points is the lowest a golfer can be awarded even if the golfer fails to achieve the required amount of points or doesn't play. Even though handicaps can become larger than 36, the minimum points needed will always be zero (0).
