"Lahar" is Tom Taus Jr.'s film that depicts the devastation on central Luzon in the Philippines brought about by the explotion of Mount Pinatubo on June 12, 1991. That eruption is considered as the most powerful volcanic explotion of the 20th century. Prior to that eruption, Mount Pinatubo has been dormant for more than 400 years. "Lahar" means volcanic ash that has been mobilized into boiling mudflow. It can bury whole towns in minutes. This film shows the extraordinary courage amidst the hardship exhibited by the Filipinos. It is narrated through the eyes of a child played by Tom. Tom himself has lived in central Luzon before and after the eruption. The billions of tons of volcanic ash spewed by Mount Pinatubo brought havoc to central Luzon up to a decade after the explotion. It also encircled the Earth outside the atmosphere giving the Earth a thin ring for over a decade.
