Chapter 22, The Other Couple

"Let me drive" Kevin told Eve as they left Breanna's house. "Okay, you're the boss." Eve teased Kevin. He smiled in response as he hopped into the driver side of Eve's Ford Expedition. "You're such a small woman, it's such a turn-on to see you drive something this big." He said laughing to her. "I drive you, don't I?" She asked with a knowing smile. "Like I said, it's such a turn on." He stated. As they drove back to his hotel Eve rubbed her stomach wondering why she felt so sick all of a sudden. "You okay?" Kevin asked. She shook her head. "I think I need to lay down. I hope I'm not coming down with something. At least not while you're here." She told him, rolling down her window to get some fresh air. "That's okay if you are, I'll take care of you." He said placing his hand on her knee. She placed her hand over his and squeezed it. "I love you." She sighed looking out the window. "I know. Me too." He smiled.

When they got to the hotel Kevin checked in while Eve hung around the lobby looking green. She hadn't been feeling good that entire week but that day just happened to be the worst. After checking in, Kevin shepherded Eve into their room and made her rest while he rummaged through the refrigerator looking for some ginger ale and some saltines in the cabinet. By the time he found everything Eve was already asleep. When she awoke two hours later she found Kevin watching her from the edge of the bed. "How long have you been feeling sick?" He asked her with deep concern. "All week. I probably have a virus. I've been stressing out because of finals like Breanna so I'm assuming my immune system hasn't exactly been working right." She said sitting up in bed. "Why don't you make an appointment with the doctor?" He asked. "No Kev, honestly I'm okay. It's probably the flu." "It's not flu season." He stated. "Well, it could be anything." She stated as she looked around the room. "Hungry?" He asked. "Yeah, I am. I'm starving actually." She said smiling. Kevin stared, searching her face. He normally had good intuition and he had an odd feeling in the pit of his stomach that something wasn't right. "Well, let's go get something to eat." She said bringing Kevin out of his daze. "Sure thing! Put on some shoes and we'll go." He said smiling at her. The green face came back to Eve as she jumped out of bed and ran to the bathroom sick to her stomach. "I guess this means her appetite is gone." He said to himself, sighing. Something wasn't right. "What if...?" He thought to himself. "No, she would know. Wouldn't she?" He questioned again as Eve walked out of the bathroom, her face drained of any color. "I'll order room service. Get back into bed." He said helping her into bed, tucking her in. "You're not going anywhere." He told her as she nodded. "I'm not going to argue. I don't have the energy." She said quietly, playfully. He smiled at her and kissed her forehead. "I'm gonna go into the living room to look at the room service menu. What do you want to..." He started to ask her but she silenced him with a wave of her hand, her eyes shut. The thought of food made her sick. He nodded his head understanding what she meant. "I'll see you in a minute." He stated as he walked out of the room.

Kevin walked into the living room and grabbed his cellphone and dialed an all familiar number. "Hello, you've reached the Happy House of Whores! Our two for one sale is still going on!" The man on the other line greeted. "Very funny, Nick. Where's Brian?" Kevin asked. "Hey Kev! Gettin' lucky again?" Nick asked. "No, she's sick. Where's Bri?" He asked again. "In the other room. What's wrong?" Nick asked. "Nothing. I gotta talk to Brian." Kevin stated. "Hold on. I'll go get him. I think he's playing B-ball with AJ." Nick mentioned as he put the phone down to get his friend. "Yo Kev, what up?" Brian greeted. "You alone?" Kevin asked nervously. "Yeah, why? You okay, Cuz?" Brian asked. "I'm okay." Kevin said with emphasis. "What's wrong with Eve?" Brian asked, his attitude turning stone serious. "I don't know. She says she's been feeling sick all week. She was nauseous when we were in the car then she went to take a nap. When she woke up she was so hungry it seemed she could eat a horse and within two minutes she's running to the bathroom sick to her stomach. Now I can't even mention food around her." Kevin complained. Silence on Brian's side of the phoneline. "Bri?" Kevin asked. "What do you think is wrong, Kevin?" Brian asked. "I...I don't know. We've barely been dating for two months. I hate to think of what could be wrong." He stated. "...and that would be?" Brian coaxed. "She could be pregnant." Kevin stated. "She could be but you won't know until you go to see a doctor or get an at home test." Brian said. "I know. But we've barely been together for two months. I think this relationship is going to work out but a baby would put too much stress on us, especially this soon in the relationship. Our lives are too hectic. I mean, my career comes first right now, and probably for the next 5 years. Maybe in 3 or even 2 years I could picture this but not now. I don't know what we're going to do. I've always wanted kids but this is just, God, it's just too sudden." Kevin said. "All that in one breath?" Brian teased Kevin. "Kev, I've never known you to be this out of whack. You normally handle things so well. I can almost promise that she's not pregnant. She would know, it's a woman thing." Brian said reassuring his cousin. "I hope you're right. I mean, if she is of course I'll love them both, but I want to be selfish and have her all to myself right now." Kevin grinned into the phone. "I know, Cuz, I know. Just relax, talk to her, if she's not sure, take a test, and then you can jump to conclusions, k?" Brian stated. "Yeah, I know. Thanks, Brian." "Hey, we're family. You better do the same for me next time I knock up a girl." Brian teased. "You bet! I'll call you later." "You'll call me when you find out what's really going on!" Brian demanded. "Sure thing! Later." Kevin said, hanging up the phone.

Eve was listening to the conversation from where she laid. After another ten minutes Kevin walked back into the room. Eve felt a little bit better and decided she would scare him a little. "Kevin, we need to talk. Sit." She demanded, patting the spot on the bed next to her. "When we started going out, when we were in Vegas actually, I had just gotten off the Pill. And...." She said not looking into his face. "And?" He asked desperately. "And I got back on it!" She said audibly, laughing. "And another thing, my period ended two days ago. If I was pregnant, I would have told you the minute I assumed something wasn't right. Calm down, you're not going to be a father just yet!" She said patting his head, smiling. He took a deep breath, exhaling slowly. "Bitch." He said, laughing with relief. "Bitch? You're the one who assumed I was pregnant after 2 hours of symptoms!" She said laughing at him. He jumped on the bed and playfully tackled her. After wrestling around for a while Eve became ill again. "I think you have a phone call to make." Eve told Kevin. "I'll go get sick in the bathroom right now and you go call your cousin back to let him know that we're fine and our little family we have going on here is sticking to the population count of TWO!" She said as she walked back towards the bathroom. "Need me for anything?" He asked from the door. "No! Call him!" She demanded weakly. "Okay, I'll be back in a minute." He assured her.

"Heeeeelo!" AJ greeted. "Doesn't Brian ever answer his own phone?" Kevin joked. "Hey Kev! What's.......?" AJ started to say when Brian yanked the phone out of his hand and ran upstairs to talk to Kevin privately. "What's going on?" Brian asked. "Eve said to tell you that our "family" population is 2. Her and I. Nothing more." Kevin said calmly as Brian exhaled. "I'm glad to hear it. Aren't you glad you talked to her?" Brian questioned. "I didn't talk to her. She overheard my conversation with you." Kevin said laughing. "Geez, women have better hearing than we do. They have better everything than we do. Bathrooms, dressing rooms, clothes, intuition, instincts, everything!" Brian complained. "You've been hangin' around Nick and AJ too long, Bri." Kevin joked. "Yeah, I know." He agreed. "Well I gotta go but I just wanted to give you the news." Kevin said, still smiling with relief. "Later man. See you next week." Brian said. "WAIT! Next week? What are you talking about?" Kevin asked, confused. "Oh, AJ didn't tell you?" Brian asked. "No, you yanked the phone away from him before he could get a word in." Kevin pointed out. "Oh right. Hehe, anyway, we have the next two weeks off cause we'll be flying to Sweden soon." Brian stated. "When did we decide this?" Kevin asked. He was used to being the one who had a major say in what the guys were going to do. He was normally the leader though he would never admit to it, only deny it. "AJ, Nick and I did. Sorry, cuz. We all knew we had to go anyway, so we figured we'd leave after Eve and Breanna moved out here. We had to make a decision today. Max needed to know cause he had other business." Brian explained. Kevin sighed, not sure if he liked what he was hearing but knowing there really was no other choice. Their career came first. "Fine. I'll just stay out here with Eve and help her move. Does D know anything?" "I don't think so. You can tell him." Brian said, walking around his bedroom thoughtlessly. "Yeah, okay. I'll see him tomorrow." Kevin said. "Anyway, Eve's still sick so I'm gonna go check on her. Thanks Bri! Later!" Kevin said quickly as he hung up. "Bye??" Brian questioned, looking at the phone. Kevin didn't give Brian a chance to say goodbye.

Eve got back into bed slowly and laid there thinking about everything...everything Kevin. She had never been that in love before and she loved every bit of it. Of course she had thoughts in the back of her head telling her that he could meet someone better when they went on tour. He could meet someone famous. Someone drop dead gorgeous. But Eve pushed those thoughts out of her head when Kevin entered the room smiling from ear to ear. "Great, you're smiling like today's the best day ever while I lay here feeling like crap." She teased. "Well, I feel terrible that you're not well but that means I get to take care of you. Anyway that's not the reason I'm smiling." He said as he slithered from the bottom of the bed on his stomach to the top of the bed where Eve was. He did it so seductively that Eve wanted to jump on top of Kevin to have her way with him but she refrained. Her energy level was nonexistent. "Fine, tell me why you're smiling." She said as he leaned in close to her chest. He touched her face with the back of his hand and frowned. "Want to stay here for the next week with me?" He questioned as he slowly undid the front part of her shirt. "A week? You're gonna stay a week?" She asked quietly, concentrating on every move he was making. "Uh-hum." He nodded as he pushed her shirt over her shoulders revealing her black bra. "Why?" She asked, realizing that she was going to have to reject him that night for the first time ever. She felt as sick as a dog. "Because we're leaving to Sweden in two weeks." He said as he tossed her shirt onto the floor. He made his way down to her shorts and took them off, tossing them with her shirt. He stared at her body and how red it looked. He looked at her face which was drained of all color. She was expecting him to take off his clothes but all he did was throw the blankets onto the floor. "Great, he wants to try to have sex with me on the hard floor." She thought to herself. Instead Kevin got out of bed, walked over to her and picked her up. "Where're we going?" She asked in a small voice. "You probably thought I was planning on making love to you. You're burning up. I'm going to put you in a cool bath to try to bring your fever down." He explained to her. She nodded her head in approval of his idea.

After twenty minutes Kevin felt Eve's cheeks and forehead with the back of his hand. "The fever's gone. Let's get you back in bed. You're going to have to try and eat something." He told her. "Yeah, I will. I feel a lot better anyway." She smiled. "Maybe I do have the flu. I'll go to the doctors on Monday." She told Kevin who didn't look too impressed as he fluffed up her pillows so she could sit up against them. "Kevin, they aren't open on a Sunday! It's just going to have to wait until Monday." Eve protested after seeing the expression on his face. He sighed, "That's fine. Just eat something for now." He stated smoothing out her hair with both of his hands so he could kiss the top of her head. "Thanks." She murmured falling back asleep. "Or eat something when you wake up." He said quietly with a small grin on his face.

On Monday Eve went to the doctors and got the diagnosis' she was expecting. A mild case of the flu. "Drink plenty of liquids, stay in bed, try to eat, and take aspirin to reduce the fever." Kevin nodded in agreement with the doctors orders. "Keep her in bed!" the doctor told Kevin pointedly. "I will, trust me." He said with a serious face. "You're a good man. Treat this one well, Eve." the doctor said laughing to Eve. She nodded her head. "Thanks Doctor 'Sicky'." Eve joked. "Sicky?" Kevin asked laughing. "Yes. Eve's been calling me that ever since she was a little girl. My last name is Sikharulidze, it's Georgian but Eve was never able to pronounce it. So 'Sicky' has stuck ever since." The doctor explained smiling at Eve adoringly. He was observing the way Kevin and Eve spoke to one another, the way they smiled or looked at each other and came to the conclusion that Eve may have finally found her match. Kevin was everything that Eve wasn't and it seemed to work for her. He was the tall, strong, caring man that Eve needed in her life. Doctor Sikharulidze thought of Kevin as the protector Eve had been looking for in every man she had dated but never found. He gave them a few more months before they both realized that they were made for one another.
