Chapter Fifty-Seven |
| Xanda stared at Brian a moment longer then sighed. "What are you doing? You can't fix things you know nothing about." She stated. Brian cracked a smile due to frustration as he stared up at the ceiling before looking down. "I'm not here to argue with you. You can try and try but I won't budge. You're not going to get under my skin anymore." He announced. Xanda continued to stare at him but realized he was telling the truth. "Fine. I'm not arguing. I'm hungry." She stated as she swiftly walked past him into her kitchen. "You want anything?" "Pizza?" He questioned. His question was more of a test. "Okay, I'll call it in. Anything else?" She asked. Brian couldn't believe she wasn't trying to break his neck off. "Eh, I guess a movie." Brian cringed as he waited for the protesting but he was surprised to see her toss something into his face. "Use my card. But get something funny, please?" Brian looked at her out-stretched hand and was shocked to see her movie card. *** Twenty minutes later Xanda and Brian were sitting on the couch chatting and watching movies while munching on cheese pizza. "What else did you get because this movie sucks." Xanda stated quietly. Every once in a while Brian could sense that she was thinking about her past. He felt the tension rise when she started to complain about the movie. "Don't think about it." He told her as he stood up to switch movies. "Think about what?" She questioned. "Um...whatever it is that makes you so sad. You're not really pretty when you look upset. You look more, um, I don't know. It's just not attractive." Brian explained while trying to make her laugh. She grinned back at him. He didn't seem the same. Something was different. He actually looked and seemed...nice. "All right, I'll stop thinking about whatever it is that is bothering me if you stop talking." She seemed angry by the way she spoke. Brian didn't know what to do or what to say for fear that she would start yelling at him. He still wasn't sure what to expect from her. "Brian, get that deer-in-headlights look off your face and pop in the other movie." Xanda laughed before tossing a pillow at him. "You are unpredictable. That's annoying." He told her as he sat back down next to her. Xanda ignored the comment opting to stare straight ahead at the blank screen. A moment later when the previews were flashing across the screen she looked over at Brian who had a permanent grin plastered to his face. He was too into the previews. "What did you rent?" She questioned. "I forgot. Something scary, I think. Either Scream or The Haunting." Brian stated as he gobbled down his last bites of pizza. "Brian! I hate scary movies." Xanda groaned. "Why?" He asked with his mouthful. Xanda rolled her eyes at his manners. 'Well, at least I was right about those.' She mentally told herself. "Why? Because it's a scary movie." She replied. "Wuss." Brian laughed as the movie began. *** Towards the end of the movie Xanda started tensing up. She had a pillow half covering her face, occasionally looking over the top when she thought the movie wasn't at a scary scene. "The worse is over." Brian noted. He felt uncomfortable around Xanda. He wasn't sure if he was there to keep on eye on her and to make sure she was okay because *he* wanted to know or because AJ had asked him. All the fights, the words, and attacks on one another were not lost on him. Xanda finally pushed the pillow away just when one of the main characters lost his head. Xanda shrieked and grabbed a hold of the nearest thing that she figured would make her feel better. It took a few seconds to register but once it did Xanda quickly looked down and noticed that she had grabbed Brian's hand and it didn't appear that he was going to let go.
