Chapter Forty-Five

Kevin woke up with a groan and the feeling that someone was sitting on his head. He opened his eyes and squinted as he looked around the room. He was in his living room on the floor and it appeared that AJ was on the couch, but barely. He smirked as he sat up but regretted it the moment his head started to pound. "Damn, what did we do after that club?" He asked himself as he looked around the living room while trying to rack his brain for any memory of the night before. "Is that you, Kev?" AJ muttered. "No, it's a crazed fan. Who else would be here? It's my house." Kevin stated. "Prick." AJ semi-laughed as he grabbed a nearby cushion off the couch and tossed it over his head to keep the light out. "So, care to fill me in on what we did after the strip club or are the details still fuzzy to you, too?" Kevin asked while leaning against the couch. "Give me a minute." AJ said as he finally sat up. "Ah, man! Ten long island iced teas. You'd think you'd learn the first time." AJ told himself as he gripped the sides of his head. "TEN!?" Kevin coughed. "You don't remember?" AJ asked as he looked over at Kevin. "No!" Kevin yelled with a smirk.

Xanda walked into the office and started to immediately bark orders at everyone. Susan quickly hopped out of her chair and ran up to Xanda. "Aren't you on leave?" Susan asked with concern. "I can't sit around my house and do nothing. Anyway, the longer I'm around my house the more I see Brian. He actually said 'good morning' to me today. That prick..." Xanda laughed as she walked into her office. Susan followed Xanda into her office and handed her a group of files. "I'm almost done with them but you may want to look them over to make any corrections if you want." Xanda nodded her head and sat down at her desk. The photos surrounding her sent memories flooding back and Xanda quickly pulled down the frames. "I'll get rid of them for you." Susan offered. "No, leave them. I'm going to have to get over it eventually. He cheated, I trusted him knowing that he had a promiscuous past, and now I'm going to have to forgive him and move on." Xanda stated. Susan did a double take and quickly sat down. "When the hell did this come about?"

AJ sat for a moment as he tried to think of a cleaver way to summarize the nights antics. "At closing time we went to that after hours bar near Howie's house, downtown. We started sobering up and talking about our problems and all of a sudden we're drinking again, and drinking, and drinking...well, you get the point. Then, you become this drunken idiot and start making stupid bets against me like 'I bet I weigh less than you' and pretty soon Howie was called to the bar to pick us up and take us home. That's pretty much where my memory stops." AJ replied sarcastically. "Oh, depression, alcohol, bets, delirium, unconsciousness. That's usually the five steps of a post break-up." Kevin laughed. "Yeah, but I think we actually -well almost- figured our lives out. We actually talked while we were sober, or have you forgotten that part?" AJ asked with a smirk. "Nah, I remember. I guess I'm okay with what I've done. I'm talkin' about me sleeping with a married woman in case your wondering..." AJ nodded his head as Kevin continued to talk. "It was stupid thing to do and the bad thing was that I couldn't forgive myself. I think I'm starting to accept that I am a normal and flawed man."

"Oh, who am I kidding? I'm not ready to be back here. With all this pressure and me being emotionally unstable I'm liable to kill one of these pricks!" Xanda giggled as she and Susan ate chocolate ice cream straight out of the carton. "No kidding! Tom in the mailroom actually grabbed my ass when I was leaning over my desk checking my calendar. And Howie had just stepped off the elevator and saw him!" Susan laughed. "Tom is such a horn dog. Remind me to fire him later." Xanda replied as she shoveled a spoonful of ice cream into her mouth. "Fine by me! But if you wonder why his eye is black you now know the reason." Susan stated as she leaned back in her chair and put her legs up on Xanda's desk. "Hey, don't hurt my desk!" Xanda shouted. "I won't! Don't talk with your mouth full!" Susan shouted back. "I bet Howie tells that to you a lot." Xanda winked. Susan grimaced at the thought. "No he doesn't. I know when he's about to give me a mouthful so I stop and usually end up getting a handful." Susan smiled. "Oh, Sus, I did NOT need that mental image. Thank god we're not eating vanilla." Xanda laughed. "Well, we really should be getting back to work. I need those files approved before 5 today so we can archive them. We all hate working on Sunday but those files have just been sitting around for too long and they're taking up space." Susan complained. "Okay, that's easy!" Xanda smiled as she sat forward and grabbed her 'approval' stamp and quickly went through each file. "Okay, done!" Xanda laughed as she handed the large stack to Susan. "Go send those upstairs and then let's get outta here. I have things I need to get off my chest and you're gonna help me."

AJ looked at Kevin for a moment before reaching across the coffee table and grabbing a piece of paper. "Everything you just told me, you told to her last night, too." AJ stated as he handed Kevin the paper. Kevin looked down at the paper and saw the soft scribbling of what appeared to be a number written by a woman. "Dayna?" Kevin questioned. He looked to AJ for an explanation as AJ shrugged. "She works at the strip joint. Nice lady." AJ remarked without going into more detail. "What!? I told my problems to a stripper at that downtown bar?" Kevin questioned again. This time AJ started to laugh hysterically. "No, no, no! You met her at the strip joint but she's not a stripper. She's a waitress, though she has the body of a stripper..." AJ trailed off as his male one-track-mind started undressing Dayna mentally. "Hey man...put her clothes back on and get back to the story!" Kevin shouted as he lightly punched AJ on the shoulder. AJ shook the images and thought back to the night before. "Right, back to the story. Anyway, you got her number." AJ started to explain. "Yeah, yeah, I remember that much. When did I call her?" Kevin interrupted. AJ coughed to clear his voice before he continued. "After we got drunk you bet that you could kick my ass in a game of pool. The only think you 'racked up' was minutes on your cell phone talking to Dayna and telling her everything. I think your phone eventually died around 5am and about 15 minutes later Howie showed up and that's all I remember. I'm assuming Dayna got Howie's number from you and she called him because she was concerned." AJ teased.
