"Chris Carter's The X-Files is a ground breaking series that gave birth to a genre, helped brand a network and became an international pop-culture icon and syndication phenomenon. Throughout its nine year network run on Fox, it held #1 time period ratings and was awarded over 40 honors, including 16 Emmys, 5 Golden Globes and the prestigious Peabody awards," stated Bob Cook, President & COO of Twentieth Television. "We are pleased that both TNT and the SCI FI Channel have recognized the show's tremendous value."
The hour long drama series will continue its weekend run in syndication, where it is currently the highest rated weekly syndicated hour. The X-Files was the first off-net weekly to offer a Monday through Friday cable strip with a weekend window in syndication, opening the door for other weeklies.
There are also some images coming out from May 5s episode Release which tells the story of a new FBI trainee profiler who digs up information on the long-ago death of Agent Doggetts son.
(Note from Rachael: The person sitting at the table is Chris Owens... remember him? Yep, Chris Owens played The Great Mutato in PMP and Jeffrey Spender in many episodes. This is a whole new character)
Anderson, who is contracted to appear in a second feature film based on The X-Files, added, "I'm very glad that the show is completely ending now, because I have a feeling that even though I would have mourned to a certain degree in saying goodbye, there would have been something left undone. It wouldn't have been as clean, and I feel like we have an opportunity now to really tie it up in a whole, constructive and completing way." Fox will air "The Truth" on May 19.
SCI FI also bought the rights to Roswell in an exclusive five-year deal. Roswell will debut on SCI FI this fall.
The X-Files, which currently airs original episodes on Fox, wraps its nine-year run in May. Roswell, which airs original episodes on UPN, is in its thirdseason; its prospects for renewal for a fourth year are dim.
Bowman, the director of multiple episodes of The X-Files and The X-Files movie, added, "I spent about nine months designing these things. I had drawings in about three weeks that I presented, and then we started designing characteristics and personalities and making them more serpentlike than dinosaurlike. They look like they're alive, agile and very supreme killers. I had paleontologists involved and a lot of artists involved, and we got to a boil-down point, because a lot of fantasy dragons are very exaggerated, have too many horns and look human anyway. We got it down to a sterile, realistic dragon, but it was boring. So I went back a little bit and added back some things that people who like dragons like to see, which is horns and attitude. So our dragon looks great, and it would really work if there were such a creature. This thing is as real as we could make it." Reign of Fire, which stars Matthew McConaughey, Christian Bale and Izabella Scorupco, will open nationwide on July 12.
The movie tells the story of two teenagers with telekinetic powers. The original film was based on the novel of the same name by Alexander Key.
