Duchovny Willing To Return For X-files Finale

X-Files star David Duchovny is set to return to help wrap up the hit sci-fi series at the end of this season. Series creator Chris Carter says his desire to have Duchovny return to reprise his character, Special Agent Fox Mulder, for the show's finale, has moved closer to reality. He says, "David was open to it and now the legal and logistical complication of trying to get it done comes." The legal problems are Duchovny's law suit against the series, which is related to his share of revenues from the series. Carter adds, "I just have to make the show as interesting as possible, not just for David but for the fans." If Duchovny does return, it will represent a reversal of his previous stand on the series. As late as in November, he maintained he would not return to the TV series, but was open to possibly appearing in a second film spun off from the X-Files. Before Duchovny departed the show last year, Carter introduced new characters played by Robert Patrick and Annabeth Gish, but ratings have slumped this season.

THE X-FILES REACHES CLIMACTIC SERIES FINALE THIS MAY ON FOX

THE X-FILES ninth season finale will mark the conclusion of the hit series on FOX, it was announced today by Chris Carter, creator and executive producer of the series. The finale will mark the series 201st episode.

This show needed a network like FOX who believed in it from the beginning. Their support over nine years turned the show from a cult phenomenon into an international hit, said Carter. He added, This has been an incredible decade of my life.

Sandy Grushow, Chairman, Fox Television Entertainment Group, commented, We respect Chris' wishes to end the show this season. He has devoted ten years of his life to his creation, which has been a tremendous asset to both the network and the studio, Grushow added, We are incredibly proud to have been home to the series and are truly grateful for our partnership with Chris Carter. Case Closed: 'X-Files' Ending in May

LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) - After nine seasons and countless conspiracies, "The X-Files" will finish its run on FOX at the end of this season, series creator Chris Carter says."This has been an incredible decade of my life," Carter says. The show has taken a hit in the ratings this season, the first not to feature David Duchovny as Agent Fox Mulder, whose dogged pursuit of the conspiracy to hide alien life from the people drove the show's mythology for much of its run. Duchovny appeared in only half of last season's episodes, and sued producer 20th Century Fox TV over his share of profits from syndication sales.

Shiban talks final X-FILES stretch
Writer/producer eyes FILES end

In an exclusive interview with CINESCAPE Editor in Chief Anthony C. Ferrante, X-FILES co-executive producer and scribe John Shiban discussed the recent announcement that creator Chris Carter had decided to make this season the show's last.

Ultimately, it was Chris [Carters] decision, Shiban said. I think all the producers were feeling we wanted to go out in the right way and in a classy way. We wanted to give the series its due, to know the end is coming and plan for it. We also wanted to tie up the story lines we want to tie up and leave the storylines we wanted left open for the movies. We were all bittersweet it is to end. I think we all agreed this was the right thing to do and glad it happened this way, rather than waiting until the end of the season [to make that decision].

Fourteen is going to be a standalone, he said. So will 15 and 16. We haven't really changed our plan. We have episode 15, which features the Lone Gunmen. Although its an X-file, its a cool one. It features them prominently and its our way of tying up some of the loose ends from THE LONE GUNMEN series. Sixteen will also be a standalone 17 and 18 are going to be standalones. [Episodes] 19 and 20 are a two-parter we planned for the end of the season which is a mythology show.

Its official. The 9th season of The X-Files is going to be its last. It was announced on Thursday, January 17, 2002. Here is an article. *your webmistress walks away in tears*

Fox to close ``X-Files'' in May

By Josef Adalian
HOLLYWOOD (Variety) - Trust this one: the Emmy-winning sci-fi powerhouse ``The X-Files (news - Y! TV)'' will wrap its nine-season run on Fox in May.

Series creator Chris Carter and Fox confirmed the decision Wednesday following a meeting in which Carter told Fox Entertainment Television Group chairman Sandy Grushow and entertainment president Gail Berman he was ready to end the series.

``The X-Files'' has been a signature series for Fox -- and a cash cow for parent News Corp. -- since its September 1993 premiere. It continues to pull in profits in syndication, where it's ranked as the top-rated off-network hour since bowing in syndication in 1997. Its network run will end with a two-part episode penned by Carter -- the show's 201st.

While the series remains a solid performer, particularly demographically, its ratings have declined this season opposite tougher competition and in the wake of cast changes. Carter wanted ``The X-Files'' to end while it still had creative and commercial strength. To read the rest of the article go here.

Report: Fox will close 'X-Files' in May

LOS ANGELES, California (Reuters) -- The truth will soon no longer be out there.

"The X-Files," the Emmy-winning sci-fi drama that thrust two federal agents into spooky paranormal situations, will end its nine-season run on the Fox television network in May, Daily Variety reported in its Thursday edition.

Series creator Chris Carter decided to pull the plug on the show, whose ratings have been hurt this season by the departure of star David Duchovny and by tougher competition.

"It's the ninth inning. We want to go out on top," the trade paper quoted Carter as saying. "We wanted to go out as a strong show."

Carter hoped Duchovny would return as Special Agent Fox Mulder for the two-part series finale opposite Gillian Anderson's Agent Dana Scully. Both actors, whose mutual off-screen antipathy was well documented, are on board for a sequel to the 1998 "X-Files" feature.

Duchovny phased out his involvement in the series last season, and former "Terminator 2" co-star Robert Patrick was drafted in as Agent John Doggett.

"The X-Files" premiered in September 1993 on the Fox network, which is part of News Corp's Fox Entertainment Group unit. Its cult hit status soon snowballed into mainstream success, and the show won 15 Emmy Awards over the years, including an acting prize for Anderson.

Although ratings were off this season, with the show ranking No. 72 out of 162, it remains a strong performer in syndication.

Fashion's Weakest Links

An American fashion pundit has naming The Weakest Link host Anne Robinson as 2001's Worst Dressed Woman. In his damning list, style guru Mr Blackwell describes the British TV presenter as looking like "Harry Potter in drag." Pop princess Britney Spears is next on his 42nd annual worst list, for outfits he calls "belly-baring bombs". Actress Juliette Binoche boasts the dubious honour of coming third, and is termed "Le Gauche Binoche." All three members of Destiny's Child share fourth place on Blackwell's list, in recognition of their "Off-Pitch Kitsch." Numbers 5 to 10 are singer Bjork, Monaco's Princess Stephanie, actress Kate Hudson, Briton's Camilla Parker Bowles, and actresses Cameron Diaz and Gillian Anderson. On the positive side of his fashion spectrum, Blackwell names actress Julia Roberts as the winner of his "Fabulous Fashion Independents for 2001," followed by TV talk show host Oprah Winfrey and TV journalist Diane Sawyer.

X-FILES executive producer Chris Carter looks ahead to the future of the show

IT'S OVER, The X-Files is no longer the story of Scully and Mulder. Chris Carter, the creator and executive producer of the long-running Fox series, acknowledges that David Duchovny is officially no longer part of the show's cast. And no, Duchovny won't make any token appearances as he did last season. Furthermore, there is the distinct possibility that the show will be without Scully played by Gillian Anderson if the series lasts another season. What then lies ahead for Fox TV's most highly-rated drama and a series that even after eight seasons continues to enjoy unprecedented success? Carter is convinced that not only has the show caught a second breath of renewed energy with the addition of Robert Patrick, introduced last year, but has been further energized with the introduction of Annabeth Gish. He even hints that should Anderson decide to leave her role as Scully, Patrick and Gish could indeed be the two lead characters.

THE MAJESTICs Laurie Holden on her breakthrough role in the Jim Carrey fantasy, and her background in sci-fi TV As Adele, the beautiful female lead in Jim Carreys new fantasy drama THE MAJESTIC, actress Laurie Holden provides an ideal blend of rosy cheeks, full lips, blonde hair and toothsome smile. Its a perfect classic Hollywood look, just as the film director Frank Darabonts latest is an ode to classic Hollywood movies. And while Holden has a lengthy television background, THE MAJESTIC is her first big screen appearance and quite possibly a breakthrough role for the actress.

LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) - Annabeth Gish, who joined the cast of "The X-Files" this fall (after appearing in several episodes last season), says don't blame her for the dive the show has taken in the ratings."We want to uphold the legacy of something that's been so successful, but, at the same time, the only thing I can take responsibility for is knowing my lines, doing the best job I can possibly do and hoping all good things," she tells SciFi.com.
