Jurassic III Trailer Coming

The full theatrical trailer for Joe Johnston's upcoming Jurassic Park III will be attached to prints of The Mummy Returns, which opens May 4, a Universal Studios spokesperson told SCI FI Wire. The trailer will also debut on the Web in that time frame, the spokesperson added.

SCI FI Wire previewed the trailer, which screened for the first time at Universal's summer movie preview in Los Angeles on April 19. Producer Kathleen Kennedy said the film will offer viewers "everything and more that people expect from a Jurassic Park movie."

In the trailer, the film's plot is set in motion when a millionaire (William H. Macy) and his wife (Ta Leoni) hire Dr. Alan Grant (Sam Neill) to guide them as they fly over Isla Sorna in a small plane. But the plane unexpectedly crashes on the island, placing the party in peril of several new species of dinosaurs. In addition, velociraptors from the previous two movies return, with a sinister new agenda. The party is shown wandering through the wrecked birthing lab from the first film, running through rain and dangling from cranes. In the final scene of the trailer, Neill discovers a large birdcage--and Leoni asks, "For what?" Jurassic Park III opens July 20.

Kim Basinger To Play Al Pacino's Lover On Screen

Gorgeous Kim Basinger is to play Al Pacino's lover in the true-life story of a top New York publicist. The pair will star in the drama People I Know. The film is loosely based on the activities of flamboyant Sixties wheeler-dealer Bobby Zarem. The film will also feature Tea Leoni, and will mark the comeback of Ryan O'Neal. It will be made later this year , and according to insiders is about "politics, drugs and scandals". Zarem is understood to have had a say in the content. A senior source says, "The fascinating thing will be how people will be able to spot themselves in the story. "This isn't so much about the image makers, it's more about those desperate to hold on to their images. Nobody escapes pain."

Three Men and a conspiracy seek the truth solo in The Lone Gunmen

By Melissa J. Perenson
When we first met the Lone Gunmen, it was the first season of The X-Files, and they were introduced as the mismatched trio of computer whizzes and conspiracy-theorist friends of Agent Mulder. It was initially a one-shot stint, but the quirky characters proved so popular that they quickly became a staple of X-Files' stable of recurring characters. But it wasn't until season five that the Gunmen carried a show without the assistance of X-Files stars Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny. And it took the season-six episode "Three of a Kind" to convince the writers of X-Files of the trio's potential to strike out on their own.
To read the rest of the interview (yes, it does turn into an interview) go here.

Hollywood Rock for Choice show draws sell-out crowd
(Note from Rachael: This is just the part of the article that mentions Gillian Anderson. To read the entire article (its worth reading) go here.)
Actress Gillian Anderson (The X-Files) emceed the eclectic evening of music, encouraging people to sign the petitions in the lobby and otherwise injecting politics between sets of music, ranging from the jangly guitar pop of the Bangles to the softer, ethereal sounds of Sarah McLachlan to the heartland rock of Etheridge.
and later...
"Who did not shave your armpits this evening?" Anderson asked, volunteering that she had not. "It's a choice, and a choice I'm glad to have."

04/16/01
This is from Maclean's Magazine (no, I'm not Canadian)
Falling from grace
by Brian D. Johnson At the Oscars, everyone said it was Julia's year, and no one believed it more than she did. There she was, telling the bandleader ("Hey, stickman!") to cool it so she could bask int he moment like a flustered beauty queen: I'm Julia Roberts and I'm going o put the world on hold. Bouncing between prima donna gall and false humility, Julia marveled at how even she was stunned by her performance in Erin Brockovich, then thanked everyone... except Erin Brockovich. I had thought Julia deserved the Oscar, but by the time she walked offstage, I wasn't so sure. Maybe an acceptance speech should be like an Olympic drug test: an actress who can't act her way through it without a delusional dose of hubris should be stripped of the award. Seeing Gillian Anderson in The House of Mirth makes the justice of Julia's triumph seem even more questionable. This movie, which is just beginning to hit Canadian theaters, was released in the United States in time to be eligible for Oscars. But Anderson was not even nominated, although U.S. critics' polls voted her performance the best of the year - a conclusion I've come to share.

Based on the 1905 novel by American author Edith Wharton, The House of Mirth is the delicately harrowing story of a woman's fall from grace in New York City high society at the dawn of the 20th century. As its tragic heroine, Lily Bart, Anderson plays a woman struggling for independence in a venal world. But unlike Erin Brockovich, Cinderella warrior, she doesn't speak in manifestos or kick butt. She communicates in a sly code, navigating a word where every pleasantry is envenomed with innuendo. Lily seeks a station, not a job; her only hope is a rich husband or an inheritance. And as this proud woman is sadly outmaneuvered by her own emotions, Anderson delivers a performance that is so subtle and finely modulated that you're reminded just how intimate a motion picture can be.

It was written and directed by British filmmaker Terence David, best known for etching painful childhood memories onto tableau miniatures such as The Long Day Closes and Distant Voices, Still Lives. With The House of Mirth, Davies has created an exquisite chamber piece, yet one in which the lush decor does not upstage the characters. As a slow-paced drama of civilized cruelty, the film recalls Martin Scorsese's The Age of Innocence, based on another Wharton novel. Davies's camera, however, is quieter than Scorsese's, and there's no narration, just velved-and-razor layers of dialogue.

Wharton is latter-day Jane Austen, but darker. Lily, a ravishing socialite supported by a maiden aunt, knows she must find a husband, but is having trouble getting into the spirit of it. In contemporary terms, she's one of those women who is convinced there are not men, although she's surrounded by them. She loves Lawrence Seldon (Eric Stoltz), a lawyer, but he assumes he's not rich enough for her. Gus Trenor, a married financier played by Dan Aykroyd, lures her into an investment scheme, then tries to reap a dividend in sexual favours. The blunt Sim Rosedale (Anthony LaPaglia), the movie's only honest character, proposes marriage as a business deal. But i's a woman who turns out to be the most lethal predator: Bertha Dorset (an insidiously charming Laura Linney) uses Lily to distract her husband while she betrays him on a Mediterranean cruise.

Lily, says Seldon, "has it in her to be whatever she is believed to be." In other words, she is a good actress, but one who tends to choose ill-advised roles. Anderson, however has chosen well. In The House of Mirth, the actress who became an icon of emotional reserve as Scully in The X-Files is still being preyed upon by alien life-forms, this time men. But to watch her mouth slowly close the distance to a trembling kiss, or to see her coquettish pride give way to despair, is to watch a performance of rare depth. There is, in the end, something terribly familiar about Lily's world. "Men have minds like moral flypaper," she says. "They will forgive a woman almost anything except the loss of her good name." Substitute "looks" for "name," and she could be talking about Hollywood.

FOX's 'Gunmen' Shoots for a Big Finish

Wed, Apr 11, 2001 02:50 PM PDT
by Kate O' Hare
LOS ANGELES - While a second season of FOX's Friday-night comedy-drama "The Lone Gunmen" remains an open question - although co-creator and executive producer Frank Spotnitz says improving April ratings are a good sign - the "X-Files" spin-off plans to finish its freshman run with a flourish.

"It's big, big," says Spotnitz. "We've got our 'X-Files' crossover. We've got Michael McKean, reprising the role he played on the 'X-Files.' We've got some other nice surprises in that show. It's the third Friday of sweeps, May 11. It's called 'All About Yves.'"

There was a little ratings thing in the March 24, 2001 (Yeah, I know, it was a long time ago) TV Guide. Here it is.
Ratings Roulette

The gender lines among TV viewers March 4 were more pronounced than insults at an XFL game. Males chose Fox's The Lone Gunmen, while females were torn between NBC's Jackie, Ethel, Joan: Women of Camelot and ABC's Amy and Isabelle. With executive producer Oprah Winfrey's name attached, Amy trounced Jackie in the weekly ratings, playcing 16th among viewers 18-49 to Jackie's 52nd. The split of female viewers helped Gunmen land at 15th. So was Oprah in on a conspiracy, or did Gunmen act alone?
(Note from Rachael: Well, I'm female and I watched The Lone Gunmen. TV movies are kind of 'off')

And here is a little part of the interview that I greatly enjoyed.
Returning to The X-Files - if you were to abduct someone yourself as an alien, who would it be?

Easy - George W Bush.

Not a big fan of the gun-happy hick, then?

No. I'm amazed we've elected him President. It's a little hooky to me. He's elected by the swing of the Florida vote - where his brother is governor. And the man who's really calling the shots? It's his old man - and he's an ex-CIA spook. Jesus, I work on The X-Files - we deal with conspiracies every day.

Gaws has posted a transcript of the Gillian Anderson chat on Yahoo.com from Friday. Here is a link.

Here is a little snippit from the chat that caught my attention.

peakie00: whats buskaid?
gillian_anderson_live: There is the Buskaid music school ... and there is the string project ... and there is a woman named Rosemary Nalden, who is a viola-ist in London. She decided to give up her cushy job and move to teach young kids to play classical music in Soweto, and she has transformed their lives. They are amazing musicians and a symbol of hope and what can be accomplished from the townships of Soweto to performing at Royce Hall in Los Angeles."
(Note from Rachael: Notice that that is viola, not violin.)
