Differences Between Greek and Roman Gods and Goddesses

Poseidon

Poseidon is the god of the sea. He is also the brother of Zeus and Hades. Poseidon is associated with horses and bulls. After
defeating Coronus, Poseidon drew lots to see who would rule what. Zeus won and chose the sky. Poseidon won the second
lot and chose the sea and would have chosen it even if he had won the first lot. There is a story that Poseidon wanted to marry
Demeter, the Goddess of harvest, but Demeter threw in a challenge. She wanted Poseidon to make a beautiful land mammal. In
the the myth, Poseidon made a horse. In other myths, Poseidon made mistakes and invented the camel, the zebra, the giraffe,
the donkey and the hippopotamus. He never killed these animals but let them walk all over the world. Poseidon was a
quarrelsome god and made earthquakes with his trident. It also shook the underworld and Hades thought it would collapse into
his kingdom.

Neptune

Neptune is the Roman equivalent off the Greek god, Poseidon. Neptune is also the Italian water god. He was orginally the
god of fresh water, not seawater. He was also the god of horseracing. He was helpful to sailors.
