8.27.03 Transformers - G2 Cyberjets While I've only got 4 of these guys, there are only three molds total anyway, so I'll be throwing in some comments on the ones I don't have (Air Raid, Strafe) based on photos. What these amount to is 6 jets, three Autobots, three Decepticons, with a lot of really nice articulation. The Articulation is especially nice given the time these came out. They are each roughly the size of the Machine Wars jets, possibly slightly smaller, which means these are basics. You can fairly easily find them on eBay if you'd like to pick some up though I've found you may need to search for some fairly generic terms, I saw some listed as "Black TF Jet" and "Green Camo Jet". All reviews are listed Decepticon/Autobot on the name order. Skyjack/Air Raid I guess they didn't want to make the stealth fighters a strange exotic color, these guys are almost an almost identical black save Skyjack's flame paint job on the rear. The undercarriage is differently colored as well. The Vehicle mode is a F-117A Nighthawk for these two, Skyjack actually has a sticker proclaiming such on the sides of his front. It's actually pretty accurate to the real jet save for the huge missile hanging off the back of the plane. The other gimmick for the line besides being highly poseable is that they have "friction ball" missiles. You grab the missile and press the back in with your finger till the ball holding it place gives and the missile fires, no springs needed. It works very well, much better than any spring launcher I can think of. Each jet comes with 2 missiles I believe (Mine came loose so I can't be sure). There are slots for storing the missiles under each wing. I can't really say I prefer one color scheme or the other, the flame job isn't really all that bad looking on Skyjack and it makes him match better with everyone else's flashy paint job. There are also flip down landing gears (3). Transformation Notes I don't really care for describing transformation too much but I will add a few notes on this guy. Maybe I'm doing something wrong but the bar holding the jet nose to the jet rear (robot chest to robot back) seems like it's place in a bad spot and it can be difficult to fold it back and forth for transformation. In fact it often pops apart. I've examines the piece but it doesn't seem to be attached improperly. Otherwise Transformation for all the different molds is similar, but it Is different. There is always a different way for the arms to swing or a different way the nose fold back. Robot Mode Robot mode retains the same black color scheme as the jet mode, but the flame pattern is not visible from the front. There is a lot of red in the limbs (Skyjack) now however to make up for it. In fact I notice all of the Decepticons have red limbs and all of the Autobots have Blue limbs. On a similar note the Decepticons have Yellow missiles while the Autobots have White. Kind of a neat little point and it shows that someone at least put some thought into the design of these guys. To a lesser extent the Autobots also feature more realistic paint schemes than the Decepticons. Back on subject, The robot mode has ball joints on the shoulders, hips, knees, neck, and one elbow. The loft elbow features only a hinge joint but it's not too much of a hindrance, especially at this small scale. He does suffer a bit in the number of poses he can make due to his excessive top heaviness. Anything too spread apart on the legs will cause this guy to topple over. The Right arm does not feature a proper hand and contains the missile launching gimmick. However when the missile is removed the launcher looks kind of like a claw hand. The missiles can still be stored hanging off the wings in this mode. The missiles also fit in the robot's fist as a club but I have no idea why you would want to club anything with a live missile. The head features a light piping gimmick as well. Overall Not a bad toy at all but probably the weakest mold of the lot. The transformation is flaky and it has the funky hinge joint for some reason. Strongly Recommended. Space Case/Strafe Honestly with his rather patriotic and lighter color scheme I would guess Space Case to be the Autobot of this pair. There are many shared aspects for all three molds which will make the second two reviews here much quicker. While similar to this the vehicle mode is slightly closer to this I haven't found any other jets that come close on the dozen pages I checked. In general I don't really care for this jet mode. Maybe it's the strange checkerboard color scheme on Space Case (I don't have Strafe but is camo looks loads better). This mold is the only one where the missile launcher ends up on the bottom however, which makes it look generally better. However that means the jet can't sit flat on it's belly, you'll have to use the landing gears. Like the F-117 mold there are slots to stick the missiles under the wings. Transformation Notes Almost identical to the standard Valkyrie of Robotech. Too bad they didn't use this set up on the F-14 mold. However due to the nature of the differences, this mold is pretty much incapable of a decent Gerwalk mode. Robot Mode Not too bad really. This mold features two real hands, unlike the other two, that's a nice bonus. The nosecone rotates during transformation which means the wings sit on the back in a more ascetically pleasing manner. Space Case features ball joints at all the important locations except waist (no joint). The missile launcher works as well, but when unloaded becomes an extra tool instead of a hand replacement. The missiles can be stored on the wings as well in robot mode but they are very low on the body and tend to get in the way (Skyjack's missiles store high and to the sides). The head also features a light pipe gimmick. Overall Once again, this is a great toy, Compared to the other molds though I'm generally neutral. I'd recommend Strafe over Space Case if you have a choice just because the colors look better but your opinion may vary. Strongly Recommended. Hooligan/Jetfire Now I DO have both of these guys. So for simplicity, I'll refer only to Hooligan unless commenting on colors or something. The alternate mode here is a slightly modified F-14 Tomcat (the tail fins are angled not perpendicular). The wings also are adjustable from extended for maneuverability to closed for storage/speed. The missile launcher sits on the backside of the place and pegs in place (unlike the F-117 mold). Jetfire features a gray camo color scheme while Hooligan features an Orange tiger stripped color scheme. It's say it's a toss up really for which is better but Jetfire is probably a little better. Jetfire is definitely better in robot mode. The unloaded missiles can be stored down the center of the plane's belly attached to the arm. Transformation Notes Capable of a very unbalanced Gerwalk mode. Generally Valkryie like but the arms don't fold up in the correct manner for a real Valkyrie. Also the tail doesn't fold up. Robot Mode As previously mentioned, the colors on Jetfire look much better in this mode than Hooligan. Hooligan is a huge orange blob between his tiger stripes and Decepticon red limbs. The light piping eyes gimmick still shows up in this mold and the right arm is replaced by a missile launcher as well. The wings are still adjustable and look good in either position. Overall I like this guy a lot. My favorite of the set. Jetfire looks the best overall as well in terms of color scheme. If you pick up only one of these guy's make it Jetfire or Hooligan, but they are all Strongly Recommended.
