07/01/02 The Godfather I don't really get what's up with this series of movies. Recently I actually tried to watch them since they were showing on TV, which means I don't have to drive all the way to the video store or pay money. Maybe it's just the excruciatingly lengthy running time, or more likely the seeming lack of gunfire that just made this thing a BORING movie. I mean really, this is supposed to be THE mob movie. Where the fuck are the gunfights every five minutes? Or Guys named "Jimmy the Rat" and "Leroy the Lifter" or "Shifty Sammy"? Instead we get like 10 hours of Italians in suits discussing politics a lot. I suppose the movie had all the things I was looking for, but frankly I just couldn't keep my attention on it long enough to find them. Now on the subject of mob movies, how about that Scarface? Now THAT'S a mob flick. I mean, a guy gets butchered with a chainsaw in a bathtub, how much better can you get? Oh wait I forgot, how about when Pachino single handedly takes on like 50 guys with machine guns. I TAKA YOO FOOKIN BOOLITS! Hell I've seen family friendly Disney mob movies with more gunfire. I'd like to thing even if I wasn't watching I would have noticed the gunfire. I have this sort of thing that if the TV is on in the background and guns start shooting I tend to look and see what is being shot. I didn't have any of these moments during this Godfather marathon shit. All I really remember at this point is some kid in Italy loosing his brother then he comes to America (by America I mean the US of course, fuck Canada and Brazil, and Mexico). Then there was something about some government guy trying to get money for something with a casino. Then at the end there was a guy going into the bathroom to get a gun. Not necessarily in that order. I mean really, you want to keep my interest? Don't give me "To be continued" as the guy is going to get his weapon! Have the guy get his weapon and start blowing some fucking skulls away already! Actually I'll admit I didn't end up watching any of Part Three. and I probably missed parts of Two and One as well. I figured It wasn't interesting the first 3 hours, why would it be interesting the next 12? In finishing, this movie gets the Ramen Seal of Disapproval.
