06/22/02 Pay? For this SHIT? I've decided that if I ever come to the point where I have to beg users every day to give me money through Paypal or ask them to buy my used garbage off of E-bay, I'll know it's time to close down the site and give it up. I mean really, this is sort of a hobby. When my other hobbies but into things like food, rent, gas, school, or drinking money, then I give up those hobbies for a bit till I have the cash. Golly gee, I'd love to buy that new PS2 game but it would mean not eating for a month, maybe I better just play some game I already own. With that in mind the thing anymore seems to be that you can sucker readers for money just by putting a Paypal banner on your website. Then you also have to beg them to click it each update and include a clever little graph showing the progress made this month towards the 2000 dollars you need to keep open. Let me repeat that. 2000 dollars a month to run what amounts to one or two free webpages on Geocities or Tripod. Or if you prefer, one 20 dollar a month Geocities page. Webcomics seem to be the major culprit of this activity. I suppose making a comic is a bit more work than just bitching about whatever the hell you feel like bitching about on a webpage, and the bandwidth issue could be a bit more assuming all your readers are reading the entire archive daily every month or some shit. Basically I fail to see how any page short of www..com could need that much money to operate. What exactly are you spending this money on? It could be worse actually. I mean they could be forcing you to pay to see anything. This trend has been big lately with gaming websites. As much as I hated The GIA before it died, it's good to see they have the decency to just give it up instead of begging the readers for cash. Instead you have sights like Gamespot and IGN that make you pay for older information. They seem to forget that chances are there are at least a dozen websites out there with the exact same information for any given subject you may be looking for. Only a complete fucking idiot would pay for this sort of service. Maybe instead they could cut down on their bandwidth by loosing a few dozen of the ad banners on every one of thier pages. Maybe they don't realize that graphics take up the most bandwidth. You can fit a dozen or more text pages in one banner graphic. So next time you feel the need to be a sucker and pay for shit on the internet take the following steps. 1) Punch yourself in the face to knock some sense back into your head then 2) if you still feel like burning money, just send it to me instead and I'll send some BS made up information back to you eventually. I'll be sure to spend it on shit like NES games and Spiderman action figures instead of some shit webpage.
