07/11/01 Diablo II So tell me why they made an expansion for this game? I mean, really? Like the first game was too long to begin with. Not only is there a long ass rather dull quest in place, there are 5 classes with which to play through it. So anyway, Diablo (by which I mean Diablo 2, since Diablo 1 was a piece of shit), was a pretty decent game. Until I realized I was spending hours killing hordes of the same monsters over and over while everyone else on the server was sitting around in the town screaming "WAN 2 TR@d3 G3mz?" over and over(the text reads from the bottom for those unfamiliar). Really though, if that's all you are going to play the game for then don't fucking bother. Gems aren't even that useful in the end. Hell, once I had a guy just GIVE me several perfect diamonds and other perfect gems. Just straight out. He came on the server and asked if anyone wanted any free gems, and I said sure, so he came to me and gave me half a dozen of them. Then I used them on one of my socketed weapons and found that my newfound spear was shit next to my old autocrossbow and so I gave it to some newbie or sold it or something. So anyway my point is, Diablo 2 is good for a while, but then it gets old quick. It couldn't even compare to Starcraft in the end. Starcraft being fun for a while till suddenly all the decent players dissapeared and all the games were lame 7vs 1 mucho money maps. i suppose there are strong points. Like the number of different items available. Or the random map generator, so the place isn't exactly the same every time you play. On the minus side, the random map generator is really stupid since every time you play you'll have to search all over for the place you were last exploring. For another plus the game is free after the initial purchase. I mean I have considered playing other games, but the idea of paying a monthly fee for something that probably has the same lameties of Diablo 2 is a rather horrid though. What else can we say about this game. How about less weapons. I mean do I really need to get a set of cracked leather boots with every other enemy I kill? I mean fuck just give me gold, at least I don't have to worry about gold taking up space in my invitory while I carry it back to camp to sell it. Then of course there are the rare items. Which everyone scrambles over. Generaly rare items are like gems. In that they suck completely. For a while I was carrying around like 5 pieces of rare armor, then I realized I would never need 5 pieces of armor so I sold them, all, because the armor I was wearing was much better then any of them and rare items sell for a few thousand gold pieces each. Not that gold is useful anyway. By the time you can afford any of the weapons for sale they will be obsolete. But I like to thik I have some purpose for all those battles, so I would horde all the gold and all the cheap cracked daggers and chipped shields, and sell them off for 50 gold each. So for a final verdict, if you can find half a dozen people you know to play with, it's actrually pretty fun. But don't bother joining random games. You'll find a decent serious player one in ever 50 or so games, if that.
