Maybe Someday

Too long since I have written huh?^^;; Hmm...Here's a new one. This idea popped into my head during my ES laboratory. You'll find out what it's all about once you get to read everything! ENJOY NOW! By the way, Sakura and Syaoran were still small kids here...around 3-4 years old. This is made in Syaoran's point of view to make it more dramatic...well, sorta (heheh) ^_^;;

MAYBE SOMEDAY

by: CAL

Green.

The color I have grown to like through the years.

It all started when my mother took me to an unexpected trip in a foreign land. I was only a child back then. It was one day I would never forget.

* * * * *

The little boy was gazing out the window, watching the beautiful cherry blossoms gracefully flowing outside, when the car stopped all of a sudden in front of a simple park. His mother got out and motioned the boy and their butler to follow her.

His mother looked at him with her caring raven eyes. "Syaoran..." she said softly, but loud enough for the boy to hear, "I'll leave you here in the park for a while. For the meantime, I have an important appointment." Syaoran tugged at her long white dress. "Can't I go with you mother?," he asked, pleading through his deep amber eyes.

She shook her head firmly. "I'm sorry but the answer is no.", she answered, kneeling before him to meet his eyes, "It's something about our clan."

"What about our clan? Is it about Clow Read?" he replied innocently. The mother remained silent for a while. "I guess you have felt his aura by now," she said, laughing a little, "Yes, it's about that, this might be the place the Book of the Clow that we have been looking for rests." She stood up and turned to the man beside her son. "Watch him for me." The man bowed. "I will," he replied immediately, clutching the boy's small hand in his. Giving his son one last look, his mother got in the car and left.

The man looked down at Syaoran. "Shall we go master?" he kindly smiled at him. The boy only responded with a slight nod. He left him at the ridiculous looking slide that looked like a penguin and sat on a nearby bench. Syaoran just stared at it. The little boy waited until the butler got distracted so he could go around with nobody following him. He hated being followed every second!

Fortunately, a fat woman approached the man and Syaoran assumed they were already lost in their own conversation. He took the opportunity to explore the whole playground.

A lot of children were playing wildly on the playground, except for a short-haired girl about Syaoran's age, who sat alone on a swing, moving slowly back and forth. Her face was buried on a doll so he could barely see her face. She seemed to be embracing it tightly. She was wearing a pink dress and bear clips that looked really cute on her. He just stood there watching her---waiting.

The girl felt someone was watching her and she slowly lifted her head. Their eyes met. Syaoran suddenly felt awkward when he saw her pretty troubled face. Tears still formed on her emerald green eyes. Tension rose.

He cleared his throat and approached her. He pulled out his handkerchief and handed it to her like a little gentleman. She gratefully accepted it, giving him a grateful look, her face still flushed. No words were spoken for a while.

"Thank you..." she said, trying to suppress the quiver in her voice. Syaoran sat on the swing next to her, fixing his gaze on her face. "What is bothering you?" he asked in his little manly voice. The little girl studied his face and moved her gaze to the ground, hugging her doll more tightly. She bit her lower lip, tears rolling down her colored cheeks.

"My....my m-mother..." she sobbed heartbreakingly.

Syaoran felt his heart twist in his chest. He looked at the girl sympathetically. "I'm...I'm sorry..." he started, but the girl broke his apology, forcing a sweet smile. "Don't worry about me...it's not your fault..." Hot tears formed in her eyes.

Syaoran took pity on her. "D-Don't cry..." he said, almost pleadingly, "You...l-look better when you smile..." The girl brushed away her tears, holding his handkerchief to her small chest. "I'm sorry..." she apologized, turning to him with a smile. His mouth slightly curved upwards.

The girl looked up sadly. "It's just that...I miss my mother...I can't believe she's gone..." her voice was trembling, "No matter how much I want her back....I can't do anything. I just feel so...sad. I know I should have gotten over it but..." She paused. Her vision was blurred with tears ready to escape anytime. "I can't help missing her....I love her so much...the more I think about it....the more pain I feel...I know she's with me but...I want her alive....I'm---I'm sorry, I shouldn't have..."

"I understand.," Syaoran said comfortingly, recalling his own father, "I know how you feel..." He locked his gaze into her eyes. "But... I'm sure she would never want to see you cry...."

The girl turned to him and gave him a cute sweet smile, her green eyes sparkling with new hope. "You're so kind." she replied as she stood up from her swing and gave him a hug, to Syaoran's surprise. "Thank you." He felt his face burn from blushing. He tried to speak but he was frozen in his place.

The girl neatly folded the handkerchief. "I'll return this to you after I clean it up."

Syaoran stood up, trying to snap out of his trance. He looked at the ground and kicked on a pebble. "No. I'll do it myself."

"No. I will," the girl insisted. Syaoran shook his head. "No. I'll be leaving tomorrow."

A wave of sorrow swept over the girl's childish face. "Why so soon?" she asked, "Do you live far away from here?"

"Yes."

The girl handed his handkerchief and gazed at him. Syaoran blushed. "You're really kind. I hope we meet again." They smiled at each other.

Syaoran realized that it was getting late. "I have to go. I'm sure we'll meet again." He glanced at her beautiful green eyes before he ran off.

A man with glasses approached the little girl after the boy ran off. "Sakura...it's time to go..." his face revealed a sign of relief to see his daughter smile again. "Yes father!"

Meanwhile, Syaoran uncomfortably shuffled in his seat. He felt something strange about the girl he met, but the incident made him think about his own mother. He frowned deeply. He glanced quickly at his mother and looked down at his feet. He was always quiet around his mother, because he was afraid of her. He had never thought of letting her know how much he cared for her. His mother felt his tension. "Is anything wrong Syaoran?" she asked, examining his every move.

The little boy moved closer to her and to his mother's surprise, he gave her a hug. "I love you mother," he said, his face full of childhood innocence as he buried his face in his mother's waist, "Don't leave me." His mother smiled, her heart touched at her son's peculiar behavior. "I'm not going anywhere. I will always be by your side, even if the day for us to part comes..." She hugged him back.

Syaoran cuddled closer to his mother. He thought of the pretty girl he met before, her green eyes that sparkled like emeralds haunted him, maybe forever. Green. He liked that. A smile formed on his lips

A little girl and her father watched a limousine pass by them. "...your mother will always be by your side. And she wants you to be happy." the father told his daughter. The little girl nodded cheerfully, as they watched the cherry blossoms serenely fall towards the ground like drops of rain.

* * * * *

Green became my favorite color since then, recalling the meaningful eyes of the little girl.

And it all started that day, when the cherry blossom bloomed and filled the streets with its lovely fragrance. It was a day I will never forget.

I have always wondered how she is right now. I imagined how she looked like with her beautiful emerald eyes that I wanted to see again.

I know we'll meet again.

Maybe.

Someday.
