Herbert, lost in thought, does not fully notice the bus driver has spoken to him, and misses the opportunity to reply.


He worries about his failure to respond throughout the entire trip. Did he seem snobby? Self absorbed?


Is it to late to go back and say 'Hello'?


While he is busily obsessing over having possibly hurt the driver's feelings, he does not notice that the bus has filled with frail, elderly women. He subsequently fails to offer any of them his seat. They are all too polite to ask him for it, though every one of them suffer from painful bunions and bad knees.
