Like some other parts of Somerset, the Mendip hills have been designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB).
The area has been a destination of travellers and holidaymakers for centuries, each one curious to view the magnificent limestone gorge carved into its southern slopes above the village of Cheddar.
Somerset is the home of Cheddar Cheese and excellent cider. Home-baked scones, farmhouse clotted cream and local jam are the perfect accompaniment to a refreshing pot of tea (forget the calories for a while and enjoy the fayre!)
Program
Saturday 20th
· Arriving to Cheddar
· Going to the hostel to leave there our luggage
· Walk along the Cheddar Gorge as usually we will branch off beaten tracks to explore more secluded spots
· Visit of Cheddar Caves
…and not only that - climb of 274 steps of Jacob’s ladder to reach a cliff-top viewpoint looking towards Exmoor and sea
· Evening free program – maybe want to find out why Somerset is called the true cider county and taste a bit from local season’s apple harvest in liquid form J
Sunday 21st
· Breakfast
· Guided visit of the Cheddar Cheese company with in-house tasting
· Free program
…some may want to treat themselves in local speciality food shops in a village
…for keen walkers there is another excellent walk option
· Leaving Cheddar by bus to Weston Super Mare and from there we take the First great western train service to London
Accommodation
Cheddar Youth Hostel is a modernised Victorian house situated in the village of Cheddar.

Transport
On Saturday we will take the train from London Paddington at 7am to Weston-super-Mare and then local bus to Cheddar (arrival time 10:55).
On Sunday we will leave Cheddar at 15:37. The 16:58 train from Weston-super-Mare should be at London Paddington before 8pm.
We cannot be responsible for failure of public transport or traffic delays, which may prevent you from taking the tour. Please allow plenty of time to return in time to connect with other form of transport. We also do not accept responsibility for any delays; failures caused by circumstances beyond our control.
What to take with you

Outdoor clothing, firm walking shoes, food (local shops, restaurants), slippers, towel, pocket money (approx. £4 for single bus ticket). You will not need a sleeping bag.

2. Await confirmation of your booking from us / we will send you payment and meeting instructions as well.
3. Complete the payment as per the instructions. Once we receive the payment your registration is complete.
