Newsletter 2003- 2004

Dear Friends:
What a wonderful experience I had attending a two-week intensive Summer Dance Institute for Teachers in Seattle, WA. I danced with folks from all across the U.S. and Canada, and as far away as Indonesia. It was both refreshing and stimulating. It also put me a little behind getting my fall registration together-but it was worth it! This September will begin our nineteenth season of classes at the Kennedy Dance Centre. Hooray!

Sincere Thanks to those of you who completed the brief questionnaire sent out last spring concerning my thoughts about a "two-track" dance program. A clear majority liked the idea of having the availability of options (for both the "recreational" and the "serious" dancer), a number desired more clarification concerning specifics, and a limited few were ready to begin or continue a serious track right away. (Some of our dancers already fit this category.) It would take more time and space to articulate my thoughts than I can devote at this time, but I will provide more information as the year progresses and will contact specifically those of you who indicated an interest in the serious track. Our great majority of recreational dancers will enjoy classes as usual.

Sr. Hip-Hop classes will be offered in two formats this fall:
Urban Hip-Hop while incorporating all the latest moves, opportunity will be given to explore individual style and expression. Improvisation will be encouraged and gymnastic skills will be incorporated as deemed appropriate for level of experience and ability.
Studio Hip-Hop will rely more heavily on specifically choreographed routines presented by the instructor, again utilizing all the latest moves seen on popular music videos.
Students are encouraged to select the format most suited to their personal needs and interests.

Guys' Hip-Hop (both Jr. and Sr. Levels) will be offered this fall on Saturday afternoons. Come along and bring a friend. A "two-for-one special" means you and your friend can each dance for half price!

Kidz Hip-Hop classes are being offered for boys and girls (grades 3-5). See details on the class listing.

Potential "Dancin' Dads" should sign up on the registration form, even though classes will not be held until Second Semester. That way, we can call you when the time arrives, rather than relying on a sign-up sheet at the studio.

Competition Class New students interested in auditioning for either the Jr. or Sr. Levels should list the class on their registration form without making any payment. More information concerning the audition procedure will be made available to you.

Teaching Assistant Program Students interested in this program should contact the studio for more information concerning requirements, level placement, etc.

Sacred Dance Participation in the Sacred Dance class is offered free of charge to students currently enrolled in a regular weekly class. No previous experience is necessary, but students must have a genuine interest in exploring both dance and drama as an expression of faith and worship.

Dance Shoe Exchange Bring out-grown dance shoes in... take right size dance shoes out; or buy a new-to-you pair for $5.00. Dates are September 20 and 27 (Saturdays). See details

No News Is Good News Students will only be contacted about registration if there is a problem with class placement.
