Inheriting the difficult situation in Vietnam from his predecessors, John F. Kennedy  altered the course of American deployment in the region.  Only by exploring President Kennedy as a Senator, as a President and as a soldier of the Cold War can one truly understand of his position and place in history.  In addition, the question remains whether, if his life was not cut short, President Kennedy would have withdrawn American forces committed to the area for the sake of protecting South Vietnam and preventing the spread of Communism.
