The 1969 Blazer

In the 1969 model year, Chevrolet introduced a new motor vehicle to the competitive
sport utility market, the Chevrolet Blazer. The concept was to incorporate the amenaties
of a car with proven components from the Chevy/GMC light truck line. To view a scan of the entire brochure, click on the above pic.
This vehicle was designed to compete with the much smaller Ford Bronco and International
Scout models. Several advantages that the Blazer incorperated were a larger interor
cabin with much more storage capacity, a longer wheel-base, and wider more stable stance.
This first Blazer model is easily identifable by round wheelwells,
a fully removable fiberglass top, the front grille on which was stamped the
name "CHEVROLET" on a bar running across the center, and a lack of any framing over
the windows on both doors.
The first year Blazer featured several powerplants including the following:
V-6 250 1 bbl producing 155 horsepower @ 4200 rpm
V-8 307 2 bbl producing 200 horsepower @ 4600 rpm
V-8 350 4 bbl producing 255 horsepower @ 4600 rpm
You can identify a 1969 blazer and its' factory options by the vin number, here's how:
The first letter will be "B".
The second letter determines the chassis type, "C" is conventional
(two wheel drive) and "K" is for Four-Wheel Drive.
The third letter identifies the engine; "S" for V-6 and "E" for V-8.
The first number designates the load capacity, 1 for 1/2 ton in this case.
The second and third numbers indicate the cab to axle measurement;
07 for 42-47 inches.
The fourth and fifth numbers are 14 for Blazer utility body.
The sixth number is the last digit of the model year; 9 for 1969.
The next letter indicates the assembly plant.
Finally, the remaining numbers represent the vehicle's
individual serial number.
