| What is an electric bicycle (Ebike)?
|
|---|
Easy. A Bycicle with an electric motor.
|
| How you can build an Ebike?
|
|---|
Buying an electric bicycle right away. There are some models already in the market. However, there are conversion kits for all kind of bicycles. The one you are seeing here has a front wheel elecric motor from www.golenmotor.com

| What is the top speed of an Ebike?
|
|---|
This depends on the motor and batteries you have. Also, some other factors may influence like the weight of the: bicycle, rider, and sometimes the wheels and the terrain.
The Ebike you are seeing has a 48V 500 Watt 20Ah Motor. I weight around 250 pounds and my top speed on this ebike is 23 Mph. A lighter rider can achieve 30 Mph! WOOOHOOO!

| What is the range of an Ebike?
|
|---|
This also depends on certain factors: the batteries, and how do you ride the bike. Most of the riders assists their ebikes by pedalling know and then. Without the assistance the Ebike range reduces substantially.
If you want to ride very long distances you should not use Lead Acid Batteries. That is what is suggested!!! However, What long is very long??? My bike uses 4 Lead Acid Batteries and my longest ride has been around 30 miles. I assist my ebike now and then.

| What is the best candidate for a conversion?
|
|---|
This dependens on the terrain. Puerto Rico is very "hilly" and I have to climb a hill now and then. That's why I choose a Mountain Bike as a candidate. I use 3 gears only (the bycicle offers 21) when assisting the motor. The drawbacks of using this kind of bicycle is that the racks and accesories (fenders, front and rear racks) are expensive.
A Cruiser bike is also a good candidate, however, try to buy a good seat. If not you will feel all the bumps on your back and ass!!! A friend of mine wants to install a rear wheel kit on a Beach Cruiser. I am looking forward to see its results.
