Entry Twenty-Nine -

Swift Wind, Subtle Darkness

Cats and dogs describes today (not literally of course). Clouds are crying a four inch river in the state of California - the Bay 60 minutes from my house is expected to have 27 foot waves. Just think, that's over four Bob's tall. For those of you that don't know, a Bob is a 6 foot 2 inch measurement.

With daylight savings time, and the current winter weather, I've noticed a change in the people around me. It's as though the public state of mind is directly associated with the level of darkness and poor weather outside. People seem to be quieter, and very tired, as though they were sedated by a series of tranquilizers. For example in English today, even those who talk as though they were going to die in the next five minutes were absolutely silent. People were shivering with their tight shirts and ridiculously short skirts, yawning away as silent rain drops hit the ground easily outside.

Personally, rain makes me feel comfortable. It gives me that home-style Christmasy feeling, where one wants to curl up and drink a war cup of something, I prefer Oolong tea, with 3 spoonfuls of sugar. Rain also makes me think extremely lucidly. When the rain is coming down and the wind is blowing, so the drops float from the sky at delicate angles, any problem I ever had in life seems to go away and I feel totally relaxed. Last year, when I was a Freshman, I used to go on bike rides with my favorite rainproof jacket and some slick swishy-style pants that are also rainproof. Best part about it was that I could ride full speed into the rain, ride through puddles, anything, and still when I got home I was warm and dry. For those of you that enjoy it, that last line was very much a figurative analogy for life - it can be viewed with the negative connotation - cold and wet on the outside, or be seen in the eyes of one who appreciates any situation for the sake of learning from it.

Just as bad weather influences one, good weather also has a dramatic effect on one's personality. I've noticed that when the sun is beaming and the day is well, people seem more enthusiastic. Perhaps this has something to do with the basic animal instincts of man, when the day is pleasant food thrives on the plains, so we must be alert to catch it.

Look out for those 27 foot waves you insane beach-goers.

Today was a good day for me, who knows what the rest of the world was thinking, but I thought it was wonderful. "The biggest storm in six months, expected to bring 4 inches of rain" says the weather lady. The way people were quiet today was wonderful, I enjoyed the tranquility on campus. When I got home I felt like a cup of tea, but I felt like drinking it with someone so I waited for my mom to get home. While waiting, I relaxed and read a bit in All Quiet on the Western Front, then watched the three "OVUs" (whatever that means) to Love Hina. I guess a lot of people weren't exactly happy with the ending, because it left a great deal of loose ends, so the staff decided to right the wrong and create three more episodes, which I watched with intense concentration. It inspired me to try to start drawing anime, and I gave it a go for a good hour and a half, but I've never been much of an artist. I'll be persistent though, and continue to try, so hopefully one day I'll get better. Right now the only thing I can draw decently is dragons, because I have so much practice doing so.

My cold's doing a lot better, and I'm feeling good, hope you all are too. Don't be part of the people who have a damp life.

Take care my friends.
