Husband's Notes[UL:Mr. Mrs. John Sharp 60TH Wedding Anniv. Observed Nov. 8TH:UL] A family dinner was held Sunday, Nov 8th at the home of Mr. and Mrs. John E. Sharp in honor of their 60th wedding anniversary. Their anniversary was Nov. 4th but was celebrated on Sunday so members of the family could attend. Daisy D. Snyder daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Josephus Snyder of Greenup and John E. Sharp only son of Mr. and Mrs. John E. Sharp of Casey were married in Toledo Ill. Nov. 4th 1899. They have resided in Washington community all of their married life. For the past 52 years they have lived at the home where Mr. Sharp was raised, the land having been entered by his maternal grandfather, Thomas Sedgwick in 1857. They have been active in community affairs as well as the Washington E.U.B. church. Mr. and Mrs. Sharp have one child, Ralph E. Sharp Sr., five grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Those present for the dinner were the honored ones, Mr. and Mrs. Sharp; Dr. and Mrs. L.E. Webster of Effingham (Mrs. Webster is the only living sister of Mrs. Sharp); Mr. and Mrs. Ralph E. Sharp, John and Becky of Casey; Miss Linda Sharp of Champaign; Mr. and Mrs. Robert Warren, Don, John and Phillip of Lawrenceville. One Grandson, Ralph E. Sharp Jr. and family of Iron Bridge, Wis, were unable to be present; also one great grandson, Robert Warren of Lawrenceville. The obituary of John England Sharp John England Sharp son of John England and Margaret Sedgwick Sharp was born in Crooked Creek Township, Cumberland County, Illinois, October 12, 1878 and passed away at the home of his son, Ralph, January 9, 1962 at the age of 83 years, 2 months, and 28 days following several years of declining health. He was united in marriage to Daisy D. Snyder, November 4, 1899. To this union one son was born. He had lived in this vicinity his entire life and was engaged in farming until his retirement. He served Crooked Creek Township as Supervisor and Road Commishoner. He became a Christian in a revival at the Washington Church during the ministry of reverand Harry Reese and was a faithful member there until his death. He is survived by his wife, Daisy; one son, Ralph; three grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and a host of friends. FROM THE CUMBERLAND COUNTY HISTORY SHARP, JOHN ENGLAND (b. 12 OCT. 1878-d. JAN. 6 1962) was the son of John England and Margaret Ann (Sedgwick) Sharp Sr. His mother died when he was less than a year old and his father died when he was eight years old. His father had married a second time and he lived with his stepmother on the farm his father had purchased until her death in the late 1880's. After the death of his stepmother he made his home with his grandmother Sedgwick and his Uncle William Sedgwick. He was married Nov. 4, 1899 to Daisy Deleware Snyder (Snider) (b. 13 Sep. 1879) a daughter of Josephus (b. 5 Mar. 1834-d. 3 Nov. 1904) and Francis Jane (Myers) Snider(b. 30 Jan 1846-d. 5 Sept. 1902). They moved to the farm inherited from his father and lived there about 10 years. One son was born during those years, Ralph England Sharp born April 7, 1900. In about 1909 his Uncle William Sedgwick was wanting to retire and John England moved to his grandfather Sedgwick's place and lived there over 50 years. These two farms were the only homes he had in his lifetime. Two years before his death, due to ill health he and his wife Daisy returned to live in the home of their only child on the farm where he and his son were both born. He was a farmer all his life. He served two terms as Highway commissioner and two terms as Supervisor of Crooked Creek Township. He was active in Washington E.U.B. church and is best remembered for his earnest service in his church. John England Sharp is buried in Washington Cemetary.
Wife's Notes[UL:Obit of Daisy D. Sharp:UL] Daisy D. Sharp, age 94, of rural Casey, passed away 9:00 p.m. in the Cumberland Nursing Center in Greenup, Thursday, June 20, 1974. Mrs. Sharp was born September 13, 1879. Her husband John, passed away in January of 1962. Her son, Ralph, also preceded her death in 1971. Surviving are: Daughter-In-Law, Bernice Sharp of Casey; grandson, Ralph E. Sharp of Juneau, Wisconson; two granddaughters, Mrs. Marjorie Warren of Lawrenceville and Mrs. Linda Flesher of Champaign; one step-grandson, John Cox of Belleville; one step-granddaughter, Elizabeth Hawker of Caterville; and nine great-grandchildren. She was a member of the Olive Methodist Church. Funeral Services were held Sunday at 1:30 p.m. in the Markwell Funeral Home with Rev. Hugh Smith officiating. Mr. Sharp was born on April 7, 1900, the son of John E. and Daisy (Snyder) Sharp. He was a retired farmer and businessman. He leaves his wife, Bernice; three daughters, Mrs. Marjorie Warren of Lawrenceville, Mrs. Linda Flesher of Champaign and Mrs. Elizabeth Hawker of Cartersville; two sons, Ralph Jr. of Juneau, Wis., and John Cox in Japan; 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Funeral services were held Friday at 10:30 a.m. at the Markwell Funeral Home with burial made in the Washington Cemetary, southwest of Casey. They had three children. Marjorie born 23 Mar 1920 and married to Robert L. Warren of Lawrenceville, Ill. Ralph England Sharp Jr. born 1 Oct 1925 and married to Rachel Worrell of Bowen Ill. Linda Ann born 27 Apr 1937 and married to Lorimer L. Flesher, Champaign Ill. There are nine grandchildren, Marjorie having three boys, Ralph Jr. two daughters and three sons and Linda one son. Mr. Sharp engaged in the implement business in Casey Ill. as owner, salesman and field representitive for John Deere Plow Co. for fifteen or twenty years. When he sold the business he purchased from his father the farm where they both were born. He engaged in farming and the raising of pure bred cattle and Hampshire hogs until his retirement in 1965. In 1953 he married Bernice (Roberts ) Cox. She had two children by a previous marriage John Wayne Cox (b 6 Mar 1943) and Elizabeth Ann Cox (b 28 Mar 1946). They reside in the country home he built in 1947.![]()
