1953, the Bronx. Young lovers Janey Hurley and Ralph Halloran do not want a large, expensive wedding, and the bride's family needs the money to save their family business. But a dinner with the groom's wealthy family leads the bride's father to pridefully commit his life's savings to a lavish wedding with an extensive guest list. Relationships are strained to the breaking point under the pressure of costly bridesmaids' bouquets, cake layers and each detail.
