Serlina ma'Eridon was an enchanting woman from the Jerwintus Sands, the desertlands to the South of Havenland. She met her husband, Eridon, when she was only thirteen, and he had journied to the desert to handle some trading issues. She was awed by his Northern looks and intelligence. He was equally captured by her, with her silky black hair, piercing green eyes, and lithe, long-limbed figure, and so Eridon cut a deal with Serlina's tribe leader so he could take her back to Haven with him.
Serlina proved to be a valuable asset to the Holding, showing remarkable skill using exotic herbs for many salves, medicines, and charms. Eridon was pleased with his choice, and cherished her all of her days.
Serlina had her first child when she was fourteen, and Jane when she was seventeen. She preferred her elder daughter, Clarity, because she was disciplined, quiet, and respectful as she had been taught to be herself. Jane was one she never could quite get along with, or talk to. She was too brazen and awkward. She loved her daughter a great deal, but disapproved of her. She was mortified when Jane decided to become a Swordmaster, and began wearing masculine clothing, but she didn't say much to oppose it because her husband approved.
Serlina became pregnant again when she was twenty-nine, the year of Jane's wedding. When the wedding party and guests were attacked, Serlina turned to flee, but was grasped by the hair and thrown to the ground by one of the anonymous, helmited soldiers. She lost the baby. She had also lost her elder daughter, Clarity, just months before when she'd run away. The two losses combined, plus the physical trauma, stole Serlina's life away a fortnight later. |
