Racing 
James Dean was enamored with speed. As a teenager, James Dean would race his motorbike through the streets of Fairmount. As an adult, James Dean was well known as one who revved his engine through the classy boulevards and quiet neighborhoods of Hollywood. When that didn't satisfy his need for speed, James Dean took to the race track, where, as a newcomer, he proved a success.

Below is a list of the races James Dean participated in during his brief professional racing career. JDND is indebted to Randall Riese's The Unabridged James Dean: His Life and Legacy from A to Z for the following information.

Palm Springs Road Races 
Date: March 26, 1955
Location: Palm Springs, CA
Car: Porsche Speedster
Number: 75
Result: Third, but bumped to second when another placing competitor was disqualified.

Bakersfield 
Date: May 1, 1955
Location: Minter Field, Bakersfield California
Races: 1,300-2,000cc production, 750-1,500 modified
Car: Porsche Speedster
Number: 75
Result: Third

Santa Barbara Road Races 
Date: May 28-29, 1955
Location: Santa Barbara, CA
Race: Under-1,500cc production event
Car: Porsche Speedster
Number: 75
Result: Didn't place, although his highest position was Fourth (his Porsche blew a piston)

Salinas 
Date: October 2, 1955
Location: Salinas, CA
Car: Porsche 550 Spyder
Number: 130
Result: James Dean died on route to this race.
