(11.18) Source - Jam! Music: Planet Hollywood celebrity shareholders Bruce Willis and Sylvester Stallone welcomed scores of celebrities including the newest celebrity shareholders *NSYNC, to the Planet Hollywood Times Square grand opening. Along with CEO and Chairman Robert Earl, the celebrity shareholders kicked off a week-long series of charity parties that started tonight with a special benefit for "Stars In The Wild."
Amidst the excitement of Times Square and the neon lights of Broadway, the star-studded grand opening was filled with the hottest celebrities from the worlds of film, television, music, sports and theater including:
Ben Affleck; Sean "Puffy" Combs; Carson Daly; David Hasselhoff; Bryant Gumbel; Armand Assante; O-Town; Lara Dutta Miss Universe 2000; Donald Trump and Melania Knauss; B-Factor; M. N. Shyamalan, Director of "Unbreakable" and "Sixth Sense"; Asian Beauty Christy Chung; Far East's Sammo Hung; Jason Fabini, Jermaine Wiggins, Ryan Young, Anthony Becht, New York Jets; Saskia Webber, Women's Olympic Gold Medal Soccer Team; WCW's Diamond Dallas Page; Cast of "All My Children"; Cast of "As the World Turns"; and the Cast of "One Life to Live." Pre-party festivities were hosted by MTV's Ananda Lewis and Radio/TV personality Jay Thomas.
"What better a location for the new flagship Planet Hollywood than Times Square, the crossroads of the world," stated CEO and Chairman Robert Earl. "To help mark this momentous occasion, we decided to announce to the world our newest celebrity shareholders *NSYNC, who have just joined our Planet Hollywood family."
The party continued at Planet Hollywood Times Square on Tuesday, November 14th with the post-premiere party for Willis' new Disney release, "Unbreakable." A series of celebrity-hosted events rounded out the week, with a designated portion of the restaurant's nightly proceeds going to various charities. On Wednesday night, Evander Holyfield made an appearance to benefit The Evander Holyfield Foundation, an organization dedicated entirely to helping children.
Thursday evening, Cynthia Nixon and David Eigenberg of the popular HBO series "Sex and the City" visited the restaurant to raise money for The Drama Department, a non-profit theater company dedicated to producing new works and neglected classics. Finally, the cast of "Rent" welcomed Planet Hollywood to Times Square with a cake and signed autographs for fans to benefit Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS on Friday.
For the first time in Planet Hollywood history, the general public had the opportunity to attend the grand opening celebration. Entire proceeds from ticket sales benefited wildlife and environmental causes through "Stars in the Wild," an environmental awareness project spearheaded by fourteen-year-old Oregonian, Erica Summers.

*NSYNC Going Urban
(11.17) Source - Sun Allpop/Toronto Sun: *NSYNC plans to further urbanize their wildly successful pop sound. The Florida fivesome's juggernaut No Strings Attached might be this year's highest-selling album, but they're already looking ahead to their next record. It will have a new sound and come out in the spring, *NSYNC's Lance Bass told The Sun yesterday during an exclusive newspaper interview backstage at the SkyDome.
"This next album will be totally written by us and co-written with us with lots of different people like (R&B hitmaker) She'kspere and even Brian McKnight," said Bass, with opening act and country crooner Meredith Edwards at his side.
"We like the sound we have now. That kind of rocked-out, urban-type pop. I think it'll go more the urban side like (No Strings songs) It Makes Me Ill or Bye, Bye, Bye or It's Gonna Be Me, that type of sound. But it's definitely going to be more rocked-out."
Given No Strings' phenomenal success - in March, it set a first-week sales record of 2.5 million in North America - *NSYNC could definitely hold off on making new music. But Bass, speaking just hours before the group's second sold-out show at the SkyDome last night, said that's not the group's style.
"We just wanted to go ahead and put out something new. Our fans just go through music like anything. But we want to put out the first single, like early March, and then have the album come out April-May." Speaking of new sounds, Bass hopes to produce or write some of the material on Edwards' next album. Her major label debut, on Mercury Nashville, is due in March.
"Definitely," said Bass, who made Edwards the first signing on his management company, Freelance Entertainment. "It's just we did not have any time. We were right in the middle of this tour and I know (*NSYNC members) JC and Justin had written songs for her. And plus, the album, it's finished right now, but if there happens to be a great song that we write and I want to produce, it could definitely go on that one. We have plenty of time."
In case you're wondering about the Bass-Edwards connection, the two singers both hail from Clinton, Miss. They met in the early 1990s when they were both in a singing troupe. "I've always wanted to work with her and I thought she had what it took to be this huge solo artist," Bass said. When it came time to sign her, Edwards didn't believe him. "I didn't think he was serious. I was like, 'Okay.' He was like 18. I was like, 'Yeah, right!'"
Edwards, who describes her sound as "contemporary country," as opposed to the pop-infused "new country," says opening 10 times for *NSYNC has been a great opportunity to get some serious exposure. And, no, *NSYNC's predominantly teenage female base hasn't been booing her off. "They've actually been really receptive about it," Edwards said. "I don't know why. I'm just really lucky about that."
Next up for *NSYNC, who will film a Budweiser-sponsored, anti-underage drinking PSA in Toronto today for broadcast during the Super Bowl, is an hour-long Christmas special airing on FOX and ONtv on Nov. 30. The band taped it in their home base of Orlando, Fla., at Universal Studios.
"We wanted something different for Christmas," Bass said. "And we took a lot of our songs and just remixed them totally, and did like an unplugged version. We're just sitting on our stools in this circus tent with a great audience and our band and we got some horns. We got all kinds of instruments, and it was really a big jam session."
Following that, *NSYNC will appear on the Billboard Awards on Dec. 5 and act as presenters on the American Music Awards on Jan. 8. They'll also no doubt be a major presence at the Grammys on Feb. 21. "I think we're performing at the Grammys this year, so that'll be very nice," said Bass, who isn't expecting anything in the way of nominations, which will be announced Jan. 3.
"You never know with Grammys. I mean, Grammys is just a whole different ball game. It doesn't matter that your album's the biggest album of the year. We could go with zero nominations."

Producer Foster To Create 'Popstars'
(11.17) Source - Billboard: Noted record producer David Foster (Celine Dion, Toni Braxton, Chicago) will head up a WB Network reality series that will ultimately see the creation of a new pop group, according to the Hollywood Reporter. "Popstars," scheduled to premiere Jan. 12, will follow the formation of the group, from the selection of its members through the recording of its debut album.
The album will then be released by Foster's 143 Records label and London/Sire Records (both Warner Music Group companies). Top songwriters Diane Warren, Richard Marx, Eric Foster White, and Anders Bagge will all contribute material for the new band to record.
This spring, Foster, Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds, and Carole Bayer Sager launched Tonos.com, an online "music insiders' network" which aims to help fans and aspiring artists get a better understanding of the music industry.
If the scenario for "Popstars" sounds familiar, think of ABC's summer series "Making The Band," in which producer Louis J. Pearlman (*NSYNC, Backstreet Boys) lorded over the inception and development of O-Town. That group is now signed to Clive Davis' J Records, while the series has been renewed by ABC for a second season.

*NSYNC Hosts Stars At 'Wild' Party In New York City
(11.13) Source - Launch: *NSYNC is scheduled to party for a good cause at the new Planet Hollywood in New York City's Times Square Monday night (November 13). The party, hosted by *NSYNC, Sylvester Stallone and Bruce Willis, is to celebrate the New York launch of Stars In The Wild Foundation's line of celebrity-adopted stuffed animals, and to welcome new Planet Hollywood celebrity shareholders *NSYNC to the grand opening of their new restaurant. The Stars In The Wild Foundation's 14-year-old founder, Erica Summers, gave Launch the scoop in advance of the invitation-only event. "We're having a relaunch with Stars In The Wild and, basically, we're going to have a huge party and just hang out with the guys from *NSYNC and give out free animals. Hopefully, it will be huge, and I can't wait for that."
Summers also told Launch that the Stars In The Wild Foundation helps not only wild animals, but humans as well. "Each celebrity gets to choose where the proceeds go for their animal," she explained. "So, part of the proceeds go to animal-related causes like the National Wildlife Federation, the Sierra Club, Nature Conservancy--there's a ton of them--and then another portion of it goes to something close to their heart. Like, some celebrities have chosen cancer research, children's diabetes, the Starbright Foundation--so it's kind of a cool way that animals are helping the people."
To purchase a Stars In The Wild stuffed animal, visit the official website starsinthewild.com, or call (toll free) 1-877-582-1551.

Faith Hill, Creed, Marc Anthony Lead American Music Award Nominees
(11.12) Source - Wall Of Sound: *NSYNC sold more than 2.4 million copies of its second album, No Strings Attached, in its first week on the shelves, shattering all previous sales records. But the group had changed its approach between albums, going for more of a "hard pop" sound, partly because, as Chris Kirkpatrick says, the band is hoping to capture new fans.
"If we don't reach a new audience, we're not doing something right," he says. "Our objective is to have a universal sound and it just so happens that our fan base consists of a lot of teenage girls right now.
"We don't enjoy stagnant music. We always try to change our sound. We like people to say, 'That's new and I like it.' We never like people to be bored. You have to adapt and change with the times. Otherwise, you'll be dead."
Aside from the album and the tour, each member of *NSYNC has individual business interests. Kirkpatrick has a line of clothing, FuMan Skeeto, slated to launch in Nordstrom's stores the day after Thanksgiving.
"I hope everyone likes it," he says. "I'd like to call it trendy, but it has its own style. I even got the other guys to wear it."
Lance Bass is busy with his music management company, Free Lance Entertainment, while Justin Timberlake is working closely with his charity, the Justin Timberlake Foundation.
"I don't know what I'm going to do [after the tour]," says Timberlake. "I'll probably just write some music and maybe get into some on-screen stuff. This could all change. I'm weird like that."
Joey Fatone and Lance Bass are also interested in working on the silver screen. Of course, all five members will get their chance with the forthcoming *NSYNC film, which is rumored to be Grease 3.
"I think everybody expects us to make a movie about a group, a parody of ourselves, but we probably won't do that," says Timberlake. "That doesn't mean that we won't make fun of ourselves, though. We've been thinking about this for a long time and things are still up in the air."
