On a cold and lonely starlit night,
I sat in darkness, avoiding light.
Old memories came back so vivid to see.
My thoughts were broken, as a Whisper hit me.

I bolted right up, seeking the sound.
But alas, all alone – no one was around.
“Who’s there? Who’s there?’ I finally cried out,
But search as I may, no one was about.

Settling back in, uneasy to chair,
I still had that feeling someone had been there.
“What WAS that Whisper?” raced on in my mind,
“Say it once more, please show me a sign.”

Just sitting there wondering what should I fear,
It happened once more – so soft in my ear.
“She loves you. She loves you.” rang soft and rang true.
“You needn’t worry. She loves only you.”

Appearing before me, surrounded by light
Stood one of God’s angels, her wings laced in white.
“How can I be sure?” I started to say,
Then I felt all my fears start ebbing away.

Finally she spoke in a Whisper so low,
“There are things not time for a mortal to know.”
“But I do love her” I started to say.
The angel just nodded, my words fell away.

In another Whisper, said this saint from up above,
“We all know in heaven, the depth of your love.
Just understand me, one joy-filled day
The love you’ve been promised will soon come your way.”

“The Master’s in control of feelings like yours.
When the time is nigh, like rain they will pour.”
Said I, “How shall I know? We’re so far apart.
This love I’ve been promised is tearing my heart.”

“As He loves you and you love she
You’ll soon be together, my Master told me.
For her heart is hurting, as yours too has been
She’s so much in love – this lady – your friend.”

“God does work miracles”, she Whispered again.
“But not on the schedules of mere mortal men.
A love so strong, which nothing can sever
You’ve been promised a love which goes on forever.”

So I felt easy, relaxed, now free.
I believed each Whisper the angel told me.
Each word, each look, each Whispering sound,
I’d been promised an angel who walks on the ground.

When the time was right and she too was free,
I knew that God would bring her to me.
To honor and cherish, in heavenly ways,
We’d be so in love the rest of our days.

My angel was gone, as quick as she came.
She left me a message, some hope and a name.
I know that name, as dear as new gold,
It touches my heart, entrenches my soul.

So wait I shall, for I’m searching no more.
Dear God hath promised the thing I searched for.
She feels the same in her heart, as do I,
This love so enduring, this love from on high.

But worry I may, as worry I can,
After all has been said, I’m still mortal man.
But worry will never turn back into fear,
Not since a Whisper was placed in my ear.
