Who?
|
As you might have gathered, my name is Ian Wilson, and I live in Warrington, UK. Goodness knows why anyone would want to read this stuff, but since you're here... |
| The reason for producing this page is that I am a bit of a nerd, and it keeps me off the streets where I might come into contact with real people. For my day job, I am a Software Architect with an almost anonymous "Global" IT firm in Manchester called Getronics. |
|
Kathryn and myself are expecting a baby in January 2002, so you can be sure to find details on this web site soon.... |
In any spare time I have left after doing these things, I
enjoy the following:

Biography
| So you're still here? I was born in Salford, England in 1968, and moved to Atherton near Wigan when I was 9. I attended Peel Hall Primary School in Little Hulton, St. George's Junior School in Atherton, and Hesketh Fletcher High School, also in Atherton. I gained 4 A Levels at Wigan Technical College in 1986, and then studied Electronic Engineering at Aston University for 4 years. Birmingham was a great place for sampling the local Balti curry dishes, which actually became popular throughout the country a few years later. During this time I was sponsored by GEC Plessey Telecomms (now Marconi), and met Kathryn (at a Rugby Club disco would you believe!) before gaining a B Eng Honours (2.1) in 1990. |
| By this time I had got a job with Price Waterhouse's IT Division in Manchester, and me and Kathryn moved to Warrington. We lived in a rented house in the lovely district of Birchwood for about 4 years, but finally took the plunge and bought one in Great Sankey in 1994, where we are still based. In 1992 I got a job as a Programmer/Analyst with Nat West CentreFile, before moving to Olivetti in 1994. The company has undergone a few name changes (Olsy / Wang), and is currently called Getronics. |
| My mum also hails from Walkden, in Salford, but my dad is Scottish, and was born in Falkirk. I have occasionally been described as a tigh-fisted git, so maybe this reveals an inherited Scottish trait. Anyway, they both moved from Atherton to Mosley Common last year. |
| I have a younger brother called Stuart, who is 26 years old. He's married to Dawn, and lives in Leigh with their two daughters Ciara (3), and Alex (8). |
Interests
| Football is a major passion of mine, and I'm a big follower of Bolton Wanderers, who are back in the Premiership where they belong. I just hope we can stay there... but anyway, if you want to know more, there are some dedicated sites which I have included links to. I also play football every week, but it's safe to say that it was a wise choice not to pursue this as a career. I think if you saw me in action you'd be inclined to agree... |
| For the last few years I have regularly played Badminton, which I play every week with friends at a local sports centre in Warrington. |
| One pastime I really enjoy is building and flying model helicopters. I've been doing this for 3 years, and last year managed to pass my 'A' certificate exam. It's really cool... |
| My musical tastes are quite diverse, and I have been known to tap my feet to Jazz, Classical, Rock, Pop, Soul...(you get the idea)? Some pieces of my collection are almost modern, but some are downright embarrassing - for example my last concert was Robbie Williams, but before that it was the Eagles! Oh dear.. Favourite bands: Pink Floyd, Space, Travis, Coldplay, David Gray etc. |
| I'm an avid reader, with an interest in some obscure
subjects: I'm very intrigued to about mysteries of old civilisations, such as the
Egyptians, Mesopotamians and the Mayans. Take a look at 'The Mayan Prophecies', 'The Orion
Mystery', 'Fingerprints of the Gods' and 'When the Gods came down'. Mystery and Suspense, especially John Grisham. Organisational Behaviour, authors such as Charles Handy & Tom Peters. |
| Favourite films? How about Pulp Fiction, Dances with
wolves, Train Spotting, The Full
Monty. And the oldies: Monty Python's Life of Brian, Blue Brothers, Pink Floyd's The Wall. |
