| Chapter One It was a hot July day, the eight to be exact. Tomorrow was my seventeenth birthday. Brian and I were at Deware's Ice Cream Parlor. Brian had just turned eighteen in February. Brian and I had been friends since I was in kindergarten. We grew up together, you could ask him anything about me and he would know the answer. We were like soul mates, and in the 6th grade we made a pact that we would be friends forever and we would let nothing break us apart. We both stayed true to that pact. And for our Jr. high yearbook we were voted most likely to stay friends. Brian was always there for me as I was for him. Brian and I have in common but, we have our differences and because of that we always had something to talk about. "So what do you want for your birthday?" Brian asked after taking a bite of ice cream. "I don't know..." I paused trying to think up something. "Maybe I could have a party, or something, I really have nothing planned though." I said after thinking a few minutes. Soon we were finished with our ice cream and were out on the beach watching a beautiful sunset. "Brian," I said softly "what happens when you go to college and I'm still here?" "I don't know." He replied "we'll write to each other and I'll visit whenever I can." "When will be when you can," I asked "I mean...." "Stacy," he interrupted me "Don't worry about it right now." He then put his hand on top of mine on the sand. I tried not to worry about it, but I couldn't let it slip my mine. What would happen when he left and I was still here, would he forget me? Find another friend? I was worried and it kept getting to me all night. "Don't worry about college we made a pact all those years ago and I intend to keep it," Brian said "You get some sleep you've got a big day tomorrow promise me you won't let it worry you." "I promise." I replied with a smile. I opened my front door and went up to my room and lay down on my bed. I just thought about it and soon fell asleep. ~Morning~ "Wake up sleepy head," I heard come from my bedroom door "Happy birthday" It was Brian. "Brian what are you doing here where are my parents?" I whispered sitting up. "Down stairs he answered and there is no need to whisper" he answered walking towards me. "They let you come up here?" I asked astonished. . "Yeah." He answered "Get ready I have a big day planned." He then walked out of the room. I got dressed and started down the stairs. Brian was sitting at the kitchen. "O.K. lets go." Brian said rising to his feet. I walked toward the door. We went out to the car. "So where are we going?" I asked curiously. "You'll know when we get there. " He said. We drove for a while and talked about high school and other things. "Where ever your taking me it sure is taking along time to get there," I said turning around in the jeep "were probably out of Florida by now. "Were not out of Florida just sit tight were almost there." He said speeding a little. "O.K. closes your eyes." He said putting one had over my eyes with one hand still on the steering wheel. I closed my eyes. "O.K. opens them!" Brian said. I opened my eyes and there was the Disney land sign it read: Disneyland Wishes Stacy Brewdrough a Happy Birthday. "Oh, Brian this is so cool," I said throwing my arms around him. I continued gazing up at the sign. "Do you remember the time in junior high? When you got sick right before the chorus was gonna go to Disneyland and you didn't get to go. I remember I wanted to stay with you, but you insisted I go, and you still have never been to Disneyland, so I thought this would be the perfect opportunity." I looked at Brian and smiled. "Thank You," I said holding him close "You don't know how much this means to me." Brian always seems to give each and everything the touch it need. He made everything special to me. "Oh what time is it," Brian asked looking at his watch "9:57 they should be here any minute" "Who should be here?" I question giving him a strange look. "The photographer," Brian said, "He's coming to take our picture on front of the sign." Just then a big white expedition rolled up. "That must be them." Brian jumped out of the car and went over to greet the men. They took out a lot of equipment. Soon we were taking pictures. We took over 20 shots. "O.K. let's go!" Brian said dragging me into the park, like a little kid. We went on dozen of rides. Slash Mountain the Matter Horn. Soon it was noon. "Want to grab a bite to eat?" He asked quickly after looking at his watch. "Sure I'm starving!" So we were off. I suggested lots of different restaurant we could eat at, but Brian assured me that this one was the best. So we walked into the restaurant. " I have to go to the bathroom get the table under your name all right." Brain said walking away. "O.K." I replied. I got up to the front of the line. "Table for two please." I said to the man behind the pedestal. "Name?" He replied. "Stacy Brewdrough." I replied. "Ah... Our birthday girl, right this way." The man said after he kissed my hand. "Oh, Brian you really shouldn't have." I though to myself. He led me to the front of the restaurant to a table that had a sign that read reserved. "I sat down. Then the stage lights came on. "Ladies and gentlemen." a voice said "lets give a warm welcome for our surprise guest that will be singing tonight. Let's welcome Brian Littrel." The curtains opened. Brian had changed out of his blue jeans into a nice suit he looked nice. "Hello ladies and gentlemen I'm here to wish my very dear friend a happy birthday she's probably embarrassed shy, and putting her head down so she should be easy to spot but, I'm gonna make her stand up any ways because if I didn't what kind of friend would I be!" Brian said making the audience laugh. Brian then got off the stage and grabbed my hand and dragged me up on stage. "Ladies and Gents let's give it up for the birthday girl." Brian said while every one started to clap. There was a chair on the stage. I turned around to step down off the stage. "Ah.. Ah.. Ah... No," Brian said grabbing my hand "Your not going anywhere sit down." I sat down on the chair. "O.K. hit it !" Brian said to the lady sitting at the piano. She then started to play an introduction. "This song is from the bottom of my heart and I truly mean it for my gal Stacy this one's for you!" he said why the introduction played. "I've got sunshine, on a cloudy day... when it's cold outside I've got the month of May," Brian sang. "I guess you say what can make me feel this way. My girl." He sang so wonderfully and after all these years his is voice is still sweeter then ever. "My girl" Brian finished the song. "O.K. now it' time to sing happy birthday." Everyone in the restaurant sang happy birthday. "Happy Birthday Stace." he said as I stood up to give him a hug. "Thank You." I whispered in his ear. Then we went back to the table there was a cake. It was white with light blue icing. I sat down at the table. Soon we were finished. We went on some more rides, got some souvenirs. Then we were on our way home. "Ring..." Brian's cell phone rang. "Hello." He answer the phone with a greeting. The conversation didn't last long at all. Brian hung up the phone. "Who was it?" I asked curiously. "Oh, that was Kevin, remember when I told you he called me during school?" I shook my head. "Well, he wants me to come in so I can meet and see how we all work together." Brian said dully. "That's good right." I asked unsure because of Brian's dull voice. "Yeah it's good." he said normally. For the rest of the ride threw was no conversation. "I'll see you tomorrow." I said as I walked up my walk way. I enter my house my parents and my sister ,who is 19 , were watching TV. The computer was free I went and set down, logged in and got connected.
