The Feather of Maat: {bringer of justice}
In Egyptian belief the deceased's heart was weighed against the feather of
Maat and if found heavier was consumed and damned. In requesting this powerful
deity's interception in matters of justice (not revenge), one's own plate and
slate must be clean.
Select a feather either purchased for this ritual or obtained in nature. The feather must be white. Take the feather and pass it through myrrh or f
rankincense incense. Then place the feather under your pillow for at least 7
consecutive days. After this time, pass the feather via the same incense and
place back under your pillow for another 7 days. At the end of this time, you
will pass it one final time via the incense and place back under your pillow
the another 7 days.
At the end of the final 7 day cycle, 21 days will have passed.
Time of Moon for this ritual is not as important or delicate as in other
spells because Maat hears all please no matter the time of the moon.
At the end of the 21 days, as near to midnight or at midnight, cast a circle if you wish, but if not, at least bless the space you will be working in, take the feather into your dominant hand, raise it toward the heavens, face East and call Maat forth:
"Like hungry lions my enemies are set to devour me.
Lady Maat, from this evil deliver and empower me.
By this feather weighed pure against my mind and hand,
Render your justice and let no evil against me stand."
Blow gently your own breath on the feather and stand quietly for a
moment. Place the feather on your altar and if you wish, light a white
candle. Allow Maas to act on your behalf, bringing justice to bear on the situation at hand.
Egyptian Writing Bowls:
The ancient Egyptians believed that writing a letter to an ancestor or a
specific deity would bring about the desired outcome. Many other cultures
also use this technique, the Greeks wrote their messages on lead strips, the
Chinese wrote rice paper.
The Egyptians selected a specific bowl, blessed for this purpose, and began
writing their desire or explaining why they needed the deity's assistance
beginning at the rim of the bowl, around and down on the inside of the bowl.
Offerings of flowers or fruits were placed inside the bowl.
You can adapt this ancient practice by combining it with candle magick. Using a pen or small knife, begin writing your letter or problem at the top of the candle, going round in a spiral pattern until you reach the bottom of the
candle. Make sure you have been able to write down the entire message. *Pillar
candles are best for this*
Anoint the candle with the appropriate oil or a favorite oil (olive oil can
be subbed), light and allow to burn for at least 15 minutes for an entire l
unar cycle...about 28 days.
Best time to begin this magick is New Moon, and because you are going to be
burning it for a full lunar cycle for about 15 minutes at a time, you might
want to invest in a good pillar candle. Match the color to the magick.
At the end of the Lunar cycle, allow the candle to burn down completely. Pillar candles tend to burn down in the center and leave the shell. You can re-use this shell whenever you need to re-send the message again.
