GOVERNER OF NEW YORK
George E. Pataki
In February 2001, Governor George E. Pataki signed an Executive Order creating the New York State Task Force on Election Modernization, a bipartisan panel that will examine methods for conducting and administering elections and make recommendations designed to ensure the accuracy and fairness of elections held throughout the State.
The seven-member Task Force issued an interim report to the Governor on June 20, 2001 with recommendations on electoral improvements that can be implemented prior to the November 2001 general election. The Task Force's final report is due April 15, 2002, with recommendations on the long-term steps that New York should take to modernize and improve its electoral system.
