Test 2 Material

S. pyogenes

2 tests

1)      Dick test--skin tests; determining the immunity status for Scarlet fever

2)      Schultz Charleston--diagnostic test for Scarlet Fever--erthogenic toxin ab are injected into rash--disappearance of rash is a positive test (blanching)

 

GI Tract

·        Enterobacteriacae

·        Escherichia

·        Salmonellae--typhoid

·        Shigella

·        Proteus--urinary tract infections

·        Yersinia enterocolitica

·        Others--Vibrio, helicobacter, Campylobacter, Listeria

·        Know parts of the GI tract

·        Can cause diarrhea, hepatitis, fever, dehydration, death by perforations of the gut

·        Diarrhea and dehydration can cause cardiovascular collapse

·        Shigella sonnei--bacillary dysentery causing organism
